MS literally did this with the 2013 DRM thing. If you purchase a game you get a digital copy too and you don't even need to put the disk in again to play the game. The drawback was the only online stuff and the inability to resell the game because once you redeem it the digital version becomes tied to your account so reselling it would cause issues for that policy since they can't hand out 2 digital copies for the same copy of the game since it's all tied to the ID number of that specific copy.

I just checked the first 200 of 455 Gamepass games and it's either a handful of games anyone worth their salt played a year or two ago, Sports Game #9000, Indie-shit and ports from other platforms like PC.

Gamepass seems good if you have a family full of children so they can play literal garbage instead of buying games for each of the kids.

Only game in their I had an inkling to play was Black for nostalgia's sake but I could buy that for $1 probably.

You wouldn't be able to sell the game because it wouldn't work so nobody would buy it. Its literally just there as essentially a cdkey for the digital version but with the benefit of being able to install from disk instead of some long download. It's like those old PC games like counter strike which came with a single use code in the box for your PC and once you redeemed it, even if you sold the game again that person wouldn't be able to use it since they can't activate the game.
