Ray-tracing is hyped in the game dev community because it's an easy way to get really good lighting without handmaking basically anything.
Devs simply don't put enough work into things anymore, which is why most games run like shit too, optimization is time-consuming.
And the same thing applies to Bluepoint. People love the new particle effects but they're just really vibrant and using the new hardware to more effectively light up rooms they intentionally made darker compared to the original.
The lighting on Allant looks like shit because its easier to just leave it like it is than to tweak it. It's literally just sheer laziness. That's also why Allant himself looks so scuffed, he was made in the character creator and not handcrafted.
Also his pauldrons look ridiculous. They're not meant to be protective, but to convey a regal look, one of authority. It reminds me of Gaddafi's suit.

I was watching Dist2 play it and the fight was pretty kino with how they used particle effects for the fog attacks, wings and the spinning wind effect with the AoE. Then when he died his stupid fucking face was on screen and ruined the whole thing.

I don't like the one on the right, it looks too human. I mean I know that's probably what they're going for "his ideal self" and all that, but the left has visible corruption. It shows that even the King's ideals have become twisted by his ambition.
