It's just depressing, because of the sheer concentrated jewery happening in the industry that moddability is impossible. Remember that a lot of the most popular games started out as mods, and while you might argue that they're dull there's no doubting that they got popular for a reason in the first place. But that doesn't matter because publishers just want to get fucking paid ever increasingly large amounts of money.

too bad Source engine is fucking ancient and it has a map size limitation,that large CS GO mode thing with the "huge" island, there are shitzillions of tricks they had to use to make it work, and Valve is pretty much no-showing Source 2 to modders and developers, you know it's bad when one of the fan made Episode 3 projects is using Unreal Engine, because they would have to bring Source from the stone age to the current day technology since it lacks basic shit like subsurface scattering. The other project that is using Source is having to do all this shit, adding features to Source that all modern engines support
