Been wanting to get into DMC lately, emulating the first game as of now, heard people say the 2nd and 4th ones are bad so should I just avoid them? Or are they important for the overall story?
Been wanting to get into DMC lately, emulating the first game as of now...
4 isnt' bad people just don't like dante's outfit, and some of the enemies are kinda bland. nero was actually quite good, if a bit op though, since his grab can interrupt and block.
3 is good. 1 and 2 are terrible and not worth playing at all.
4 is not as good as 3 but still good. Honestly I preferred DmC to 4 because 4 gets very fucking boring at some points (playing every area twice and fighting every boss twice, only as different characters). If you play DmC, play it in Spanish and get the El Donte mod, it's hilarious.
5 > 4 > 3 > 1 > 2
play only 1 3 4 5
>1 is bad
>i prefer DmC to 4
here's your (You)
gross.
5 > 3 > 4 = 1 > 2
Play 4 just so you can get used to Nero and his moveset, Exceeding is pretty fun. Also the Credo fight is pretty sweet
4's honestly pretty fucking terrible at this point in time, even though the battle system is still excellent. But it's still worth playing, is short, and fun. It's just terrible because the game is half finished and 5 does everything it does better in every way except use less color. 2 can be skipped. Play it after all the rest if you want, but don't force yourself to play it. It's completely ignored.
And the story of 5 hinges on the story of 1/3/4, so you gotta play 4.
Here's a quick primer on the whole series:
>Definitely play, in release order
DMC
DMC3 Special Edition (first the regular PS2 or HD Collection version, then either modded on PC or the official Switch port to play it with Style/Weapon Switch)
DMC4 Special Edition
DMC5 (SE only if you already have next-gen, just wait for Vergil DLC if you don't)
>Only worth playing to get a better handle on the franchise's history
DMC2
DmC Definitive Edition (play between 4 & 5)
>Worth only for novelty
DMC4 vanilla on a toaster PC to see how well-optimized it is
DMC4 Refrain for being a pretty decent mobile game for 2008
Pinnacle of Combat (if it ever even comes out outside of China; despite all the weird design choices it looks passable)
>No real reason to play
DMC3 vanilla
DmC vanilla
>If you actually give a shit about the story/characters
Watch the DMC anime after playing 3 (it takes place between 1 & 2 chronologically but was produced after 3)
Before The Nightmare (light novel prequel to 5)
Visions of V (manga that's also a prequel to 5)
2nd is bad, like genuinely awful. Anything redeeming people will say about it is the most desperate attempt to get anything of value from it like talking about how they like Dante's design in it.
4 however is a mixed bag. It feels like a game they finished making mechanically but didn't finish content wise. The gameplay mechanics are really good and it introduced some great mechanics, but the levels get really desperately padded and content repeats as you realize they only got about half way through making the game before they had to release it.
5 is most everything good about 4 with a much more complete feeling to it. I resent it for having great environments to start but then the second half of the game is almost entirely in that demon tree, but it's a small issue compared to 4.
Play 1, 2 and 3. Stop there and move on with your life.
4 = DmC = 5 > 3 = 2 > 1
I really don't know if you guys are remembering 1 correctly. It's not the difference between Halo 3 and Halo CE, it's the difference between Halo 3 and Quake. 1 is not fast, it's not difficult, and the story is awful.
>3 = 2
I was gonna let DmC slide as not a troll as I know some people like it even if it's just Heavenly Sword reskinned with an edgy version of DMC. This however is a garbage opinion I don't believe anyone in good faith holds. 2 is literally a broken game.
>4 = 3
3 is a better standalone product
4 is a better game
I like them about equally.
>Implying Halo 3 is better than Quake
And no DMC game has a particularly good story. I don't know why you fuckers care at all.
haven't played 5, here's my list
3>1>4>2
you can skip 2, it's not relevant for nothing, even capcom struggles when adding the game to anything
>4 isnt' bad people just don't like dante's outfit
the game is complete shit, enemies are fucking litteral ragdolls and stages are complete steaming piles of shit.
we only put up with it because for 10 years it's all we fucking had
the actual gameplay was decent but everything around it from story, level design, shit enemies and the fact that you basically had to backtrack through everything a second time made the whole game a fucking slog
it's literally the worst game in the series after 2
>4 is a better game
i swear you faggots developed stockholm syndrome playing such a low quality unfinished game for so long
How does it feel to be a faggot with an imprinted opinion and none of your own?
Well, at least we've actually played the game.
I think it's an interesting discussion to have. 4 is mechanically better, it made some major advancements to combat. I'm on your side though as I see the game as a whole. I don't blame anyone for liking 4 a lot but as someone who takes these games as a whole, I'm not forgiving to it's mess of padding.
1, 3 and 5 are some of the best games out there. 2 is awful but you should at least experience some of it before going into 3. 4 is a tricky one, some of it is great and some of it is dmc2 tier. Still love that game but after 5 it's rough to go back.
To call DMC2 a broken game doesn't really do it the service it deserves. There's fundamentally broken games that still manage to be good and fun, and DMC2 just isn't. The game rips any semblance of fun out of your hands because its brokenness is squarely in its stupid controls, palette swap primary weapons, overpowered guns, non-existent AI, and weak impact for hits. The Despair Embodied fight as Dante or Trish is the only true highlight, and all you can really say about it is that it's a better boss fight than the very weakest bosses in 3 & 4.
The thing about DMC2 though is that the bad parts are almost entirely from the gameplay side of things. The visual design, the music, the new characters, certain scenes of the story, the level of content (2 campaigns & 3 characters, a pretty big step up from 1's singular Dante campaign), and the music again because it's fucking fantastic are all really good. I think DMC2 is the ultimate example of a game that weeds out people who don't care about gameplay; anybody who actually likes DMC2 is somebody just looking for an interactive way to get cool visuals/music/story rather than a fun game.
1 and 2 are the bad ones.
DMC1 is definitely more difficult than the other games in the series.
1 is okay if you approach it knowing it's the start. It holds up in the sense that you can enjoy Resident Evil 1. It's a fun fully playable PS2 action game with some fun pacing. It just could be wonky in a few places and barring 2, the rest of the series generally just got better.
Depends on what you take away from DMC1. The DMC fandom is wildly split on which games are good, which are bad, so whether you'll like the others or not depends on what you see in the series.
Did you like the stories and character? Play DMC2, DMC3, and SMT Nocturne. Want more of this Vergil guy? Play DMC5 (After DMC4). Dislike the direction DMC3 took? Read the novels instead.
Did you like the combat, but want to see it refined? Play DMC3. If you want to see an even further refined version of that, play DMC4. If you want to see the original director make a more refined combat system, play Bayonetta.
Did you dislike the combat and want to play something similar but with modern furnishings? Play DMC4.
If you like the atmospheric setting and horror aesthetic, play Ghost Rider, Resident Evil 4, and Haunting Ground.
>mess of padding
4 has less padding than both 3 and 1.
It also has a good story, even if not as good as 3, and the best level and enemy design in the series before 5.
5 could've taken quite a few enemies from 4 and it would've been strictly beneficial.
There's a lot to DMC4. The hate for it is quite recent and was manufactured entirely by YouTube e-celeb dick sucking niggers after more light was shed on DMC4's "cut content" - most of which wasn't even "cut content" but a list of brainstormed ideas the team had during the development. Over the years, the "unfinished" meme got bandwagon expanded to
>it has shit level design
when it had the best DMC level design at the time
>it has shit enemies
when it had the best enemies at the time
>it has shit story
when the story was good and deeper than people were willing to give it credit
>it had too much backtracking
when it factually had less backtracking than either 1 or 3 but it was just made more obvious
It's far from being perfect but it's _objectively_ a great fucking game.
1>2>3>4>dmc>5 it's going downhill and their's no saving this franchise
5 = 3 > 1 (power gap) > 4 > (power gap) DmC > (power gap) 2
Dont skip out on 4 you retard it's not very long and the mechanics are S tier
1's still the best, disagreeing just means your dumb.
>4 has less padding than both 3 and 1.
Ok, I was trying to be nice but you have real shit opinions. I don't know a damn thing about e-celebs and online videos, I just know the game feels like they built half a game and then had to stretch for time.
>preemptively defensive about it
I see you are aware there's no cure for shit taste.
2 is really that bad, just an all around mess that will suck the soul out of you if you play it for too long. 4 is good, but has some glaring flaws due to a small budget, mainly related to the breath of content. It can be boring on your first playthrough, but it's really fun if you give its combat a chance, its some of the finest in gaming especially its feedback and responsiveness. In general it's a very good, but flawed game that was short of being remembered as a masterpiece if it were completed. Some fans tend to be really harsh to 4 nowadays due to how much its been compared to DMC5 with arguments that some of its aspects still remain superior to the sequel and that's where things get heated. Depending on what you like in these type of games, your mileage may vary.
4 had DMC canceled for ten years you retarded nigger. I preordered it and bought it on release and used to beat off to the art book pre order bonus of Lady. The hate for 4 is absolutely not recent. People have warmed the fuck up to 4, and ESPECIALLY NERO, since DmC/DMC5. People fucking despised Nero just like Donte, you fucking imbecile.
Yeah.
1 isn't bad it's a fantastic game for it's time, just extremely dated. unless you've played it a ton and know exactly how it works mechanically it's a very difficult game for a newcomer to play in 2020
For example i know Ocarina of time in and out and I can play the game with all it's jank and not see an issue with it or it's controls or camera because i know exactly how it works and plays that i can manipulate the shitty camera to always work for me
someone playing in 2020 will not have the luxury or be able to appreciate OoT the same way as me and will only see the low FPS, archaic camera, laggy controls and barebones combat.
