The claims they were making about the scope of the game are way beyond the budget and skill level of a typical ubisoft studio, so you can assume that it's either going to be vaporware or unrecognizable when if it comes out.

Yes, the 2017 and 2018 trailers were literally fake, there is no actual game. Michel Ansel who was supposed to be running the development left Ubisoft in September, and the only thing he left was one (1) piece of paper with a bullet point outline of the game concept. They actually opened an internal investigation into this.

it sounds pretty fucked. everything so far points that they had an ambitious new IP idea and slapped the BGE name on there for brand recognition. i only played a little of the original but this looks like to have almost nothing in common with it. even graphically, BGE was clearly going for a cartoony stylized look whilst this is going for a more realistic kinda thing.

They brought in Jean-Marc Geffroy over from Tom Clancy games in 2017 and he had nothing to work with because Ansel went completely hands off and was daydreaming about WILD, which turned out to be vaporware as well.

The original game has not aged as well as I had hoped and it might be best for the franchise to just be put to bed at this point

Graphics might not be as flashy but its so stylized it doesn't date it too much.
