Eh, even if it were true that's fine. We've had single unit spinoffs (e.g. Crisis Core FFVII, Lightning Returns FFXIII) so it's not too damaging for a mainline entry, especially when you could only control one unit in FFXIII and FFXV anyway.

They're there and part of the story. Doesn't mean you can summon them. Clive only wields some abilities of summons in combat, like Titan punch. It's looking more and more like you can't actually summon Summons in the game to help fight alongside you.

If it's going to be a full on action game and not even a hybrid like FF7R, then there will be little to no place for support magic, just like there's no place for support abilities in DMC. It's all offensive hack and slash action without any of the FF strategy.

Probably does, honestly. XV and VIIR had terrible summoning systems, so this is most likely their solution to get summons more involved in combat.
This game is farther along compared to when most other FF games are revealed.
