RetroArch wouldnt be so bad if its UI wasnt so fucking awful. Its technical in the worst kind of ways. Its like it doesn't even want to admit its an emulator, wheras the zSNES ui expresses that it is one.

retroarch is fucking retarded. If you have the need to switch consoles and games so quickly, you had no intention of actually playing anything to begin with. Not to mention the torture it is to set it up

Zsnes was based because I used it to play snes games online with friends back in the day.

It makes people seethe now because it fucks up the music to some games and such.

Reminder that you can have the based ZSNES front end without the emulator exploits by using ZMZ, which replaces the ZSNES emulation code with the Retroarch plugin system.
As a side effect of this, you can now play other systems with the ZSNES UI, like GBA.

really I never had problems with their UI except I wish their file browser and core selector was less clunky to navigate and was actually organized rather than being just a scrolling list. and they have bugs to work out when it comes to scanning for roms.

Just note that ZMZ, as a hack of ZSNES, is programmed primarily as an SNES emulator. You have to do some manual workarounds when playing games for other systems. It's the only downside.

It's neat at first because it feels like a ps3, but it's the laziest and least stable way to emulate. There are many technical reasons why Retroarch is a complete mess, but just know that I used it for about a year and it wasn't worth the hassle. LibRetro is better and has the same functionality.

The technology behind Rretroarch is extremely impressive and I really appreciate the amount of effort the coders put into it, but whoever thought assembling it all in a PS3 UI was a fucking moron. Sorry.

The only reason I use retroarch is because it supports PGXP for PS1 emulation which significantly reduced polygon jitter. Otherwise, I'd prefer to use a dedicated emulator for the game I want to play. Unless you actually built a dedicated emulation device like a stand up arcade machine, you shouldn't be using retroarch at all.

It only got PSX support very recently, MAME requires a special complicated setup that includes altering files in a hex editor, many of the available emulators experience slowdown or graphics glitches when used in Retroarch and there are only one or two specific ones recommended for any console.

zsnes is the perfect introduction to emulation. It's super charming but eventually you'll run into a game it doesn't run quite right.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Plenty of people use Libretro without using Retroarch at all. It doesn't matter to me that they're made by the same company. If you like Retroarch, fine, that's your OPINION, but I stand by my recommendation that Libretro is a more stable and simpler emulator/front end for emulators.
