So is FF7R shit or not? I have not paid any attention since the battle system turned me off months before release, and now all I see is either people calling it shit without much explanation or waifufaggots left and right.

It is irredeemable garbage.
For starters, it is NOT a remake. It's a spin-off sequel, disguised as a remake. It's also a generic 3rd person console action-RPG that can literally play itself, has tons of tedious and sloggy sections (that weren't in the OG), some pretty bad art-directing, and last but not least: it's an EPISODIC RELEASE, and this is only the 1st chapter of who knows how many to follow. This first ep only covered barely half of the 1st disc of the PS1 original, though they added so much forced padding and filler fetch quest shit, that it still lasts nearly 100 hours on first run.

AND it gets worse:
This demake literally has a new time-travel / "muh fate!" -ghosts plot. The punchline is "fight ur fate!", meaning that the cast is now rewriting the story of the original games, ergo the sequel chapters can do what ever the hell they want, and it does not need to even resemble the 1997 original.

This is easily one of the biggest wet slaps in the faces of the series' fans I've ever witnessed.

Thank you for the in depth explanation user, your efforts are greatly appreciated. I'll be sure never to touch it.

Don't listen to , it's fantastic. He's just nitpicking shit because he's a cynic bitch

People hate it because it's not an exact remake

Barry hates it because it's better received than FFXV (higher critic rating, higher user rating, got six Nominations at The Game Awards vs XV's one)

Thanks mate! It's nice to see people with taste and brains for once, instead of getting instantly ganged-on by literal zoomies like , who can't cope with people criticizing their current flavor of the season AAA cash-grab.

>it is NOT a remake. It's a spin-off sequel,
This is kinda the crux of the whole situation. Regardless of how you feel about the game, marketing it as "the remake of FF7" when it's actually" Final Fantasy VII re:Make" is a pretty shitty move.

Dont bother, OP already with OP and this showed low IQ already and doesnt deserve a real explanation.

It has the pinnacle of JRPG combat as far as i am concerned. It is not perfect with air combat being example but it still melds action with RPG strats better than anything else

I have no idea why people bitch about changes when the original is literally always there on almost every console ever

I agree with this user and don't have much to add to it beyond the fact that it was just made poorly as well. There are so many missing and low-quality textures on everything that isn't one of the characters it almost starts looking like a last-gen game.
It was a huge disappointment since I was really looking forward to it and now I'm most likely not going to bother with the sequels.

>meanwhile Nintendo during BotW AoC development...
Bait thread aside, it is what it is. Great music, nice visual, story we don't know where it's going, linear maps, some graphic bugs and a good mix centered around the rpg part than the action one

Yeah well, thats Zig Forums for you.

>It has the pinnacle of JRPG combat
Have you played any JRPGs? have you played other FF games besides XV?

The battle system is fine, its real problem is mainly the aerial combat stuff and Red XIII being a guest party member in the end portion. It's plenty tactical and is basically just a real-time version of ATB combat since you work to build gauge for the real attacks rather than pure action. The story and padding to make Midgar last more than 6 hours are the real problems, and honestly the character interactions and banter are highlights amidst the Nomura/Kitase mess.

This is the lazy "argument" card you fags always play whenever a new butchered demake of an old mega-classic gets criticized for not living up for the IP's legacy.
If you cannot abide to the game's / series' lore, gameplay, history and general style, then why even use the name? Oh right: because it creates more money than merely saying "inspired by THE GAME!" on the box art.

why don't you play the original game if that's what you want?

It's surprisingly good considering how abyssmal modern final fantasy has been.
It's still got a veneer of modern squeenix stink that gets a bit too pungent at times but it's miles better than 13 or 15

>If you cannot abide to the game's / series' lore, gameplay, history and general style
I mean you can bitch all you want series "Lore" or "history" or general style because thats a matter of opinion, but you have some kind of deluded retard to actually think the original is better in gameplay

He's wrong that it's the best jrpg combat but he's right that it's, at least in squeenix's case, their best attempt at shoving action combat into an rpg

Why don't you play and find out? What the fuck. I can't believe you're a fucking sheep.

Because I have beaten it some 7+ times by now, and there is a reason why people have been begging for FAITHFUL recreations of oldass classics for nearly 20 years now:
it's called the Resident Evil remake, from 2002.

Never heard of it? Go play it.
That's literally what EVERYONE has wanted ever since.

Nothing more, nothing less.

It's almost 1:1 recreation of the OG, down to the plot, gameplay and feel, with smart changes and expansions where ever possible to keep the old fans at the edge of their seats, without completely altering the experience.

Yes, making a huge game with 1997's aesthetics and mentality does require more work, as in you cannot just take a generic game engine made for generic 3D action games and mod-in some fancy hires character models, but that's not something a mega corp like Square should have trouble with.

This really was not intended as bait. I just live under a rock 95% of the time.
>It's plenty tactical and is basically just a real-time version of ATB combat since you work to build gauge for the real attacks rather than pure action.
Care to elaborate?
Why the fuck would I buy a game I'd hate? Say that when it's easily piratable on PC.

>but you have some kind of deluded retard to actually think the original is better in gameplay
Why ?

>It's plenty tactical and is basically just a real-time version of ATB combat
It's not. It's LITERALLY just the same generic cool-down timers you find in any modern 3D action game, given a new name.

well too bad for you, now go play the original. You will never get the perfect remake of your dreams.

Meanwhile i play the original because it never needed a remake and i wasnt in line with retards like you begging for "a remake but only MY changes and expansions are fine", and i also enjoy a remake that goes through teh events of the original but with new twists here and there, not to mention the amazing combat system which makes it a much better experience than replaying the original.

>boohoo! WE the fans now! :^)
every time.

It's a great game. The ending was fucked though.

You know some people actually liked turn-based rpgs right.
I will give them credit that this is the best attempt I've seen at making an action rpg still an rpg, but if we're just talking gameplay mechanics then there are certainly valid reasons to prefer either.
One of the main critiques levied against the original was its lack of jobs and how the characters were pretty samey because of it, and that's far from true in remake.
Still would have liked normal rpg combat but it's fine i guess, "classic" mode is just a lie though

Game is harder/ more fun to play, more satisfying, and the hybrid system shits on the original turn based design og 7 had.

I’m waiting until the story is at least 3/4 done. Fuck waiting 3+ years between parts.

Seethe more. Now go replay the original, fake ass faggot. Oh wait, you cant, thats why you beg for remakes. Dumb zoomer.

Maybe it was just another of the "weird early game but end game concessions" but it seems like you got limit a lot less in this than you did in the original.

You know damn well if REmake happened today it’d get the same Soul/Souless shitposting DeS is currently enjoying.

>You know some people actually liked turn-based rpgs right.
I do, i never intended to mean action > turn based by default.
7r however just gives a much better experience than the original in battles, it just that simple. Fast paced as much as you want, slow paced as much as you want. Turn based design without the limitations of it.

The game literally plays itself. It's one of the easiest games ever created.
There's nothing satisfying about it. The fights are framed into clear "arenas" for the most part, instead of actually taking place naturally in the environments and thus providing real environmental obstacles and hazards. Combat against flying foes is tedious as hell.

Real turn-based combat and the ATB beat the living shit out of any real-time tryhard shit. It's much more comfy, much more tactical, much more challenging even, and best part: it makes the AssCreed generation's console babies seethe.

seethe tranny.

Most importantly, it actively opposes the thought process behind the writing and development of FFVII.
Secondly, it's not a remake. It's a bizarre self-aware continuation / do-over of VII which heavily relies on the player having prior knowledge of the events of VII otherwise much of it doesn't make sense.
They totally misunderstood Sephiroth as a character so now he's obsessed with Cloud and follows him around & intimidates him, when VII Sephiroth was so completely out of your level that he couldn't care less.
It's full of worthless filler content to pad and stretch time because it's only a quarter of a game. If the rest of VIIR continued in this style it would be 6 games long.
They've already had Cloud fight Sephiroth in a climactic battle while flying through the air and chopping trains in half like DBZ characters - but they haven't even had the scene of where you come across the aftermath of Sephiroth impaling the unbeatable snake boss on a tree, a scene which is utterly meaningless now since you're already going toe-to-toe with Sephiroth and know his character intimately. There's no mystery left to any of it for new players.

Also there are meta plot ghosts who fly around and force events to happen like they did in the original VII when the characters go off-script. But now Zack is alive and they're going off the rails completely.

It's the Rebuild of Evangelion of video games.

demon souls is just bizarrely bad
it's like they actively tried to make it worse at times

You're right that how the fights are strucured is kind of fucked and flying enemies are tedious but I at least hope the former is less fucked in subsequent parts.
Also hard mode is actually fairly hard without being too gimmicky, I don't try hard modes often but this is literally the first hard mode I've ever seen that was actually fun and not bullshit.

thats because limit bars arent saved after battles, otherwise it would screw the balance considering how broken gotterdamnrung is. However, the limit bar doesnt reset after dying.

The combat is fucking amazing square did a great job balancing between real time combat and menu abilities. you have to be a retard to think the original was better it was just attack heal attack limit break rice and repeat.
That said the liberty they took with the story was retarded but everything else is great.

Alternative history theorizing does not change real-life facts in any way, mate.
REmake happened, it was made by the OG team, for the OG fans, with utmost love and care. The result was the very peak of not only the RE-series, but the genre itself as a whole, that still appealed to the modern audiences when it was re-released for other systems back in 2014.

DeS remake was made by a bunch of HD porting western fags, who didn't bother to sit down and actually STUDY the game they were supposed to remaster.

oh, fuck mook enemies on hard though
bosses were mostly good but mooks just become damage sponge chores on hard

Enemies have weakness (you use scan materia to find which ones)
Enemies have a stagger bar
Said stagger bar increases with each hit, especially if you hit said weakness, weak spot or use specific abilities
Once an enemy reach max stagger, he goes into staggered mode, where you can dish out damages or raise staggered damages to 100-200 or even 300% damage
In order to stagger some enemies/boss, some specific action are required (breaking a part, using x spell, and etc)

Meanwhile for your party:
Each character has an archetype (cloud does damage and increases stagger, tifa increases stagger and staggered bar, aerith is the caster, barret fills stagger from a distance)
You have a multiple different ability to help in said archetype job, materia and spells. But you need to use a bar (or more) from the atb bar which fills with damage taken and inflicted, and you have at max 2 bar at a time

>otherwise it would screw the balance considering how broken gotterdamnrung is.
gotterdamnrung is literally the fuck around meme item since you get it after beating the hardest fight in the game

>The game literally plays itself. It's one of the easiest games ever created.
Only one single retard would claim this.
Barry, fuck off stupid retard.
And if you are not, hoo boy, please worry.

>It's much more comfy, much more tactical, much more challenging even
Ok now this is some lame shitposting. Dont embarass yourself no more. OG ff7 is one of the easiest FF ever created and 7r shits on it.

>>but you have some kind of deluded retard to actually think the original is better in gameplay
>Why ?
because its not. the combat for the original ff7 was way to easy it was just attack heal attack and you win.

The retards that praise trash like this when it’s new and then disappear five days later when the new flavor of the month comes around are the real shitposters.

You do know that, aside from the last cutscene at the bridge, the Sepiroth that appears in the game is Jenova, right?

>Ok now this is some lame shitposting.
Says a shitposter who just run out of arguments.
Lemme remind that these couple small games known as Persona 5 and Dragon Quest 11 happened just recently, and sold like fucking hotcakes. TB / ATB is a timeless design choice, and it is just plain fun way to play.

>OG ff7 is one of the easiest FF ever created
