Fighting Games

From the makers of Smash Flash 2 comes another platform fighter. The gimmick this time is that it's indie game characters

Here is the current full roster

I'm surprised at how many characters in here I recognize and care about
too bad the games probably gonna suck

3 fishes
4 blues

>downwell rocket boots guy
>watcher
>fancy pants
>bennet foddy

huh, pretty based roster

>The Gimmick this time is that it actually is a free- to use Framework/Engine for your own Smash clones, not only characters or stages, but full games. basically Smash MUGEN.

ftfy

MUGEN is a meme shitshow so that's not very reassuring.

wait is that the Newgrounds Tank guy?

Isn't that just Rivals Of Aether

>The gimmick is something that Rivals of Aether did years before their game is set to come out
Wow great timing faggots

This just makes me upset knowing Commander Video was like the only franchise booted from Ultimate. What did he do wrong?

god that roster is just plain fucking terrible. I don't even know where the marshmallow man, blue ninja woman and whale are from.

RoA is a good first try, but at the end, it is very limited on that Dept.

Tho yeah, the Early access will come in March 2022, unfortunately, no one outside the backers is gonna care.

>The watcher
Ironclad and Silent got done dirty

>Watcher instead of the Ironchad
dropped

>Peppino
>Captain Viridian
>Fancy Pants Man
>The Kid
>assists
what were they thinking? at least there's the saving grace of modding full movesets for them later

Watch them be playable at some point, Pac-Man and Waddle Dee were assists at first in SSF2 before being playable in a later version.

silent's at least an assist, i guess they just wanted the female representation?

they incorporated the wrath/divinity stances as mechanics, kinda neat

i wonder how they'll handle online play with mods, considering moddability seems to be the whole draw

>toss the turtle cannon
>fancy pants
Nice

SSF2 isn't even done and they already want to work on a new game? Are they retarded?

The smaller characters are just assists, not actual characters.
If all of these were fully playable characters it'd be an instant 10/10.

Weird enough since there's a RoA character already, so they should know that already. But like said, the RoA one is more limited, it's only characters and stages. And I think they can do a game fairly more similar to the actual Smash.

massive bummer but I'll still give it a shot

Brawlout's Indie guests are better.

How many people need to make shitty smash clones

Most people play smash mostly for the characters,
your clone can't have smash characters
your clone is destined to fail

>juan/hyper light drifter
i like guacamelee but those fellas show up in every indie crossover

i like the weirder picks here

brawlout is also fucking shit

>Downwell guy
Not bad.
>Orca guy from RoA
I mean, not the character I would've picked from RoA, but I also don't like any of the non-DLC RoA characters so whatever.
>Fishbunjin
Based.
>???
No clue who that ninja is whatsoever. Granted that the point of a game like this is that none of the characters fit aesthetically but they REALLY stand out in this tiny roster.
>Octodad
Seems kinda bland? I dunno, when you only have 6 characters in the roster it feels like you could pick a lot of way more interesting characters than Octodad, even just out of the assist characters. I'd take pepino or fancy pants or diogenes in a fucking heartbeat over him or the ninja guy.
>Captain Video
Good pick.

All in all, I feel like if you're gonna have a very limited roster, you need to pick the best of the best, which I'd only use to describe half of what they chose. It's also a little bland to have characters who already debuted in platform fighters be in a platform fighting game.
But at the end of the day it seems like the main draw of this is the modding tools it has? Rivals of Aether already did it, but if they make an effort to have more user friendly, open mod tools with a better engine I could easily see this outclassing Rivals of Aether.

The ninja girl is The Watcher from Slay the Spire. Her gimmick is she can enter stances that adjust her cards' damage and effects.

slay the spire is probably the most relevant of the indies represented desu, though i don't know how many people who enjoy roguelite card games would enjoy smashlike fighting games

i know i do

Apparently they reached one of the tiers on their kick-starter so 1 more character is confirmed
