Here's a glad idea
Okay so you with the get a numberline at first, you have a certain time limit to match the number up, but you're only ever told how far away you are from the target number
Okay so for example your number is 6, the game says you're 3 away from the target number with the "time's up" threshold coming in fast
That means it's either 3 or 9, so you press and hold the button to increase your number
As you do so, the distance number goes up, so you're going farther away, so you know you need to go in the other direction, so you press and hold the backwards button while pressing the button to go back
You get to 3, and you're close enough to pass through okay
But wait, you say, why not just have one button for incrementing and one for decrementing? Well because after the first level, you'll get a second line, so 2 dimensions to follow
Instead of getting two points on a number line, you get a circle on a grid of radius "your distance" from the target number
You still technically only get the distance, but for visual purposes you get a circle as well, because that's as far as you can go
You have two numbers to manipulate now, the X and Y numbers, and they both have to be close enough
This again is simple triangulation in a 2d space
You get closer, the number gets smaller, and the curcle shrinks
You have to get them both to the right numbers to pass close enough to the right numbers to pass
You have two buttons, let's say A and B, as well as a backwards button to decrease the numbers of the button(s) you're pressing
Simple, right? But then they add a third dimension, and a third button
Then they add another one
Triangulation in 4d space
Would you be able to pull it off?
