Muh 1080p 120hz

>muh 1080p 120hz
>muh 4k

what about 1440p? Is there a noticeable difference from 1080p? Is the performance hit big?
Whats the point in getting a 1440p monitor instead of 1080p if the pixels are just going to be stretched across a bigger area anyway? Surely pixel density is the most important thing?
Also new gen consoles will not support 1440p, they will either scale 4k resolution down or upscale 1080p.

yes there is a huge difference between 1080p to 1440p

not really, and i've just gone from 27" 1080p to 1440p, although the performance hit is non-existent on new gpu's
i'd honestly just save up for a 4k oled TV with g-sync and 120hz.
Monitor tech is so fucking outdated by this point

holy fucking retard

I'm still struggling to be impressed by anything higher than 720p all these years later

1440p is an even bigger meme than 4k
1080p@144hz all day every day

They are useful as proper scale from 720p rather than. What 1080p goes to 1440p.

The genereal consensus is that 27" 1440p at >144hz is the sweet spot for PC gaming. It's a nice balance between image quality and performance.

1080p is very outdated by now, even on a tiny 24" display. The pixel density just isn't good (90ppi on 24") and modern developers really like blurry anti-aliasing solutions and the lower your resolution is, the blurrier the AA solution looks. You could supersample to 1440p/4K and then downsample back to 1080p to get rid of jaggies but at that point you could just use a native 1440p panel. I think 1440p at 27" is like 110 ppi.

Can't comment on the console support as the last console I bought was a PS3.

I went from a 23 inch 1080p to a 1440p 27 inch
its pretty dank
also from 60hz to 144hz with g sync
shit is cash, fuck tearing

also I barely see a difference between 1080p and 1440p performance wise, I would say go to a 1440p 144hz and you will be set for the rest of your life

your mom's hairy asshole is outdated by now

What game user?

go to the store and look at working monitors if you never seen any high res ones before

Depends on your viewing distance and the size of the monitor. As I recall, 8k is roughly the resolution where, if stretched across entire field of vision, you could no longer see details smaller than a pixel no matter which part of the monitor you're looking ("""eye resolution""" would be substantially less than that, most of the light-sensitive cells in the eye are in the fovea, but without eye tracking and foveated rendering the monitor needs to display the picture at this uniform high resolution).

With that in mind, unless your viewing setup is IMAX from the front seat or human FOV head-mounted display, 8k is literally useless. With typical computer monitor viewing distance, the useful resolution increases would likely stop somewhere in between 1440p and 4k. With typical television viewing distances and sizes, 4k is a total meme.

It's because you had a 27" 1080p monitor dude, 1080p peaks at 24"

Thanks, looks comfy

yeah it is
its on gamepass for pc which you can get an account for for like 4$ and you can play forever from plati.market

Poorfag arguments lol.

>Surely pixel density is the most important thing?
Yes, which is why you need to take monitor size into as serious consideration as everything else. I stayed with 1680x1050 monitors far into 1080's popularity because of the stupid sizes they would make those monitors. Going from a 19in 5:4 to a 22in 16:10 was mind blowing for how much extra space there was. Going from 22in to 25in 1440 felt like an unnecessary increase. I don't know how people suffered through 27in 1080s. Anything bigger than 25in destroys your PPI. If I could have found a decent 22in 1440, I would have went that route.

great album OP

i have a 1440p screen and 1080p looks like 720p to me now, try to run a game at 720p on your 1080p monitor, that gives you an idea

I have a 720p 28 inch tv at the foot of my bed, meanng I'm looking at it from just a few feet away. should I upgrade to 1080?

>With typical television viewing distances and sizes, 4k is a total meme.
Honestly what I figured, you're too far away to notice the pixel density, I'm curious about how 1080 and 1440 compare at distances though

28inch 720p how do you survive!?

>The genereal consensus is that 27" 1440p at >144hz is the sweet spot for PC gaming. It's a nice balance between image quality and performance.
Consensus my ass faggot, maybe from redditors like you who don't really like videogames, I still game on a 10yo shitty ass monitor not caring about resolution or whatever gay shit you care about and I guarantee you I'm 10 times better than you at ANY videogames.
Incel faggot nigger

I'm a simple man and a poorfag. it served me well for 7 years. before it I had a 21'' cathode ray phillips, so the transition was mindblowing.
what's wrong about it? I honestly don't know. I'm ok with it, just thinking if it's worth it to make things a little more ok.

you need to be 18 to post here

well if it works it works, but ofc you'd be amazed by a higher res. Specially at 27inch+ displays

>Is there a noticeable difference from 1080p?
Very, it's nearly twice as many pixels.
>Is the performance hit big?
Obviously.
>Whats the point in getting a 1440p monitor instead of 1080p if the pixels are just going to be stretched across a bigger area anyway?
Retard.

>Is there a noticeable difference from 1080p? Is the performance hit big?
78% more pixels, so yes to both.

Good for you but sounds an awful lot like poorfag cope. Zig Forums is after all full of brazilians and other third-worlders.

1440p/144hz/freesync IPS is what you want, so crisp and buttery smooth in every game

I repeat that the tv sits at the foot of my bed. considering the distance, is there that much of a difference between 720 28 and 1080 32?

Honestly finding it hard to justify upgrading to 1440p. I'm happy with my AOC 1080p 144Hz IPS monitor despite one dead pixel. I'd go so far as to argue IPS made the biggest difference, since everything I watch and view isn't faded any more.

fucking hell how much of a poorfag do you have to be to wonder if you should get a 1080p screen. its literally about £70 on amazon.

forgot to add it's almost 24", so even less of a reason to upgrade.
