It flat out sucks and it's boring
I'm in the same boat. I never did the understand why Space Harrier is always remembered so fondly by some. It's almost the same for me and Golden Axe.
Panzar Dragoon and Space Harrier aren't that simular though? Primarly with the lock on in the former, and the more speedy nature of the latter. Space Harrier was more or less centerpede but from behind the back then top/down. You're focused on taking stuff down before it gets close, more less has a chance to shoot at you, while Panzer Dragoon's more about multi-locking and keeping track of your angles to dodge shots when they come.
Yet for my own, 'objective-less' games baffle me like Minecraft and the like. That game for eons didn't really have an end goal, and even once you obtain it, the game still expects you to keep playing as well. Arcade games that endlessly loop used to drive me up a wall with that.
I have nothing to contribute except to say that Battlefield is a fucking bop

would you consider DorfFort objective-less?
the last of us/ uncharted
dark souls and similar
sports games
simulators
death stranding
competitive smash bros
keep in mind space harrier was played in a cabinet, try a flight stick
Any game past the PS2 generation
All bad
Never saw the appeal of turn based RPG'S.
have you never played a traditional game?
I was going to post that, but it's less that I don't understand why people enjoy it, and more that I don't understand how to enjoy them myself.
Not him but I've not enjoyed most card games or tabletop games I've played.
you don't get any enjoyment from seeing a well thought plan succeed?
>inb4 zoomer, I'm in my 30s
ok boomer
Honestly? No. I've never been good at strategic thinking, planning ahead, that sort of thing. Normally when I've played board games with friends any plans I've made have been easily disassembled by them well in advance, or I've misunderstood some crucial rule or something like that.
I'm bad at thinking more than maybe one or two steps ahead, in my brain variables get so large and unwieldy that I can't really keep track.
that's gotta be an hindrance in everyday life
Eh. I mainly try to stick to a routine. My job is fairly humdrum, I don't really have any long-term life plans, never really did.
what about stuff like Heroes of Might and Magic 3?
personally i'm not into realistic racing games nor the entire cod generation
WELCOME TO THE FANTASY ZONE!
GET READY!
But yeah, in games while I am capable of having plans, they're very broad strokes stuff or very specific like 'I want to get this thing'. And there's no real pleasure in executing the plan other than the goal, so if the steps I need to take to execute it are fun in themselves then I usually get bored quickly.
But yeah in most games I enjoy the feeling of doing the thing, rather than telling a unit to do a thing. I would rather play Front Mission Evolved than Front Mission 3, despite knowing that 3 is the objectively better game, purely because Evolved lets you drive the big robot and 3 doesn't.
>so if the steps I need to take to execute it are fun in themselves
*AREN'T fun, sorry.
I'd like them if they either
>didn't have awful aesthetics
>didn't have horrific stories and tens of hours of boring cutscenes
But they literally all do
try planetscape torment, deus ex, disco elysium or ,hell, let's include final fantasy tactics
Can't be doing with Planescape, I tried Fallout 1 and couldn't be arsed with that old style CRPG. For whatever reason Deus Ex refuses to function properly on my laptop the numerous times I've tried to play it. Disco Elysium has ugly aesthetics. Tactical RPGs are too much effort
so you just don't want to
it's none of the reasons you listed before
i liked the song at least, and apparently most people did cause it gets ripped off all the time
youtube.com
But it is the reason for turn based RPGs, and these new reasons for those games
I love Space Harrier but hate Panzer Dragoon
fuck you OP
"can't be arsed to" is not a reason
who cares about you fucking blogger trannies holy shit, you don't like games, fuck off.
But it is. Time is finite and I know I won't get anything out of playing Planescape
The controls in many emulated versions of Space Harrier are garbage.
Space Harrier looked distinctive in the arcades and had a cool cabinet. Then when the Genesis came around it was cool to see a near arcade perfect port on a home console. I always thought as a shooter is was kinda middle-of-the-road too.
He's not saying anything other than he's not interested in games that take some time to get started. He's not claiming the genre is bad, just not for him. I don't see the problem. Can't be arsed is a fine reason if you're upfront about it.
sure whatever just don't go making excuses and inventing faults because you're too much of a stupid, lazy piece of shit to enjoy an higher form of art
