i have friends using achievement as their checkpoint for "i have done everythang that can be done in this game now" as to feel like they get everything they could from the money they paid.

Achievements unironically ruined video game achievements, it was neat at first when the 360 came out and you had a gamescore but really it just drove people to want to 100% for e-peen and not because they actually like the game. I do like the occasional game that has a creative achievement like the gnome one from HL2 ep2 but most of them are just "collect all 100 hidden nothings"

I played the shit out of video games as a kid and teenager but ended up with a conventionally attractive girlfriend, a doctorate and a healthy social life

they are retards then. In some games you can get 100% achievements without finishing and unlocking everything within the game. Also, there are achievements like "kill 5 enemies with one exploding barrel" which has nothing to do with completing the game.

Nothing much, really.
