That is just Bethesda games. In almost every Bethesda game you are the pivotal character that makes waves across ages. In Morrowind you are the Nerevar and free the Dunmer from Dagoth Ur's Dream. Oblivion you are some Chosen One that revives the Imperial bloodline and shuts the gates to Oblivion. Skyrim, Dragonborn and you either boost the Empire to a position that they can stand up the Thalmor evenly OR outright remove both the Empire and the Thalmor from Skyrim. Fallout 3, you are the Long Wanderer who literally gives the capital wasteland clean water at the cost being a martyr. Fallout 4, you are the Sole Survivor who turns the Commonwealth into a prosperous haven for wasteland settlers or raiders.

Dragons slaughtered men by the droves and only by stealing the power of Dragons was man ever able to fight back. Paarthurnax is just as guilty as Alduin. You also clearly believe the Empire is bad for Skyrim when it was the Empire who kept the Thalmor's claws off of Skyrim for so long. It was the Empire who had to cope with the Thalmor's strength and bend their knee to keep Skyrim independent of Thalmor influence. Reminder that Ulfric Stormcloak was funded by the Aldmeri Dominion to undermine the established power of the Empire by causing discord amongst the Jarls of each hold, enticing Civil War.

What aggravates the fuck out of me was that it could have been handled with a lot more nuance. Like Delphine could have sit your ass down and explained things rationally. Can you really trust the dragons? What happens after you die; what's stopping them from just taking over Tamriel again in your absence? Sure, Paarthurnax might be able to reign them in, but the dragons will dominate the political sphere for centuries to come by their very existence because mortal military power is irrelevant to them. Isn't it better for all involved to get rid of ALL the dragons now when the mortal races can rather than cross your fingers and hope for the best? Isn't Nirn better off without the dragons regardless of how good one or two of them might be? Paarthurnax is an outside force that's been the head of the highest order of Skyrim and probably manipulating its leadership for millennia. Don't you have a problem with that regardless of how good his intentions might be? His name literally means "Ambition Overlord Cruelty." He might have renounced his nature and tried to turn over a new leaf but do you really think he's content to just sit on that mountain for all eternity talking to a bunch of bearded old men? What happens now that he has an army of dragons? Do you really think he's just going to stick around and look after the best interests of the mortal races?
