Yes. This is bound to piss off boomers, but the jump to 3D made FF gameplay feel really fucking slow, especially in the PS1 era where they seemed to be really in love with their animations battles drag forever. The Remake salvages the best things about the original, those being the aesthetics/environments, the music, the characters and the materia system, and places them in a game where the gameplay is fun so long as you're not fighting aerial enemies as Tifa or Cloud.
What really surprised me is that it endeared me to characters more than the OG, like I liked Barret in the original, but he was my favorite fucking character in the Remake, he's amazing.

You seem to know about FF games. Which one should I get if only ever played 3 on the snes? I don't mind turn based gameplay at all. I have a ps4 and some people say, ff9 is the best and it's available for the ps4. 10 seems interesting too and 7r impressed me today. I liked the combat system.

No it isn't. The least deserving is TLoU2. Followed by Hades. The true GOTY is pic related, but somehow it's a pleb filter which is really puzzling to me - how can a game about the human experience and uplifting the human spirit be niche?
I think you'll appreciate IX if you play some of the older titles, like IV, V and VI. It's got very endearing characters and a nice story, but honestly, the gameplay aspect suffers because of how slow it feels, and because loading into battles takes fucking forever. X is decent, but not really my cup of tea.
