Personally I'd say it's a combination of the connections she's made during the last several years working in games media and publicity to a certain degree. Her content has been gaining traction lately, and she has noted several times that this is the job she wants to end up in. The fact that all this is lining up with the launch of a new console is no coincidence. They needed a new writer, and see that someone that they have already had a working relationship with to some degree is starting to gain a larger audience. The same someone who has stated that a writing job is what they are working towards. You hire that person, and let them make the announcement within a week of your new console launch and you get some free advertising to their growing fanbase.
