Unlike the first two cases, Mikan had several hours of uninterrupted clean up time and complete freedom to move about several large islands. She could easily put the murder weapon back at the hospital, kitchen, super market, or wherever it came from and it would be impossible to find it. Even if they did know the weapon, it's not a clue since it doesn't implicate anyone.
