Let's get this straight:

Let's get this straight:

Bloodstained IS a Metroidvania.
Hollow Knight IS NOT a Metroidvania.

Symphony of the Night is the original game that birthed that autistic fucking term in the first place so let's use that as a baseline. What the fuck is SotN's main difference from Super Metroid? An expansive RPG system specifically revolving around a wide breadth of customization when it comes to both weapons, spells, and all manners of other mechanics, an idea expanded upon by Iga in every future Castlevania with it's most autistic iteration yet in Bloodstained. Metroidvanias then predominantly referred to the games released by Iga during that era hence the existence of the term Igavanias as well. As a side note, Classicvania refers to the original linear Castlevania experiences.

Hollow Knight is limited to one weapon, a few spells, and charms that slightly augment your playstyle but at the end of the day it always revolves around your one simple weapon. All it's other characteristics from extremely non-linear level design, standard power-up gating, exploration-focused gameplay and all that shit hearkens back to the philosophies Super Metroid and to some extent Zelda popularized. So what's a Metroidvania that has all Metroid but no vania? A Metroid-like. Most "Metroidvania" games that come out in this day and age are all fucking Metroid-likes. Hollow Knight in particular is a combat-heavy Metroid-like. Nothing more; nothing less.

To see the difference between a Metroidvania and a Metroid-like, you only need to see the differences between Bloodstained and Hollow Knight. Possibly the most quintessential contemporary examples of their respective genres.

I just want to point out that hollow knight Is one of the most overpraised games I've ever played. It's literally "that part: the game". Annoyance factor Is off the charts.

life is difficult with autism. good luck

It's underrated, mate.

Dude shut the fuck up about Hollow Knight, holy shit you've been obsessed with this game for years. And the funniest part is that all your """work""" will be invalidated once Silksong comes out and everyone floods in to actually talk about the game. Nothing you do matters, you are screaming into the void.

Horny is void confirmed

Imagine starting a new thread and writing several paragraphs all for the purpose of fucking arguing semantics.

It's not semantics. That's the entire point.

I actually genuinely agree with you but you should know better than to start an anti-hollow knight thread on Zig Forums

I don't think that this is the same guy since he's actually articulating his points and giving valid reasons
usually the guy you're talking about just spouts nonsense about artificial difficulty or the map system

Ah yes, the eternal "muh hollow knight cant do no wrong reeee" Zig Forumstard crew.
Just to point out some annoying shit you encounter while being barely 8-10 hours into the game: electric jellyfish land, pitch black lands, crystal peak, soul sanctum, not to mention every enemy which Is an annoying homing missile or jumping faggot... Adding floaty platforming, zero feedback and weight to combat and movement, fucking kickback from everything, initial zero map clues and no way out(like in crystal peak), bonfires a million miles away, backtracking etc. And to think I listened to Zig Forums and bought it. Atleast, when I played ori I wanted to push through and finish the game. This one, I force myself hard to get going, because I know that these artsy Indie shitters put more annoying shit around the corner.

Why are you trying to pick fights? You'll never win.

>initial zero map clues
How is this a bad thing?

just play another game dude

although i agree that it is overpraised, what do you mean by "that part"? there was no single moment i thought stood out. all in all it's a good game but it is way too long for the amount of content in it

yeah I don't care about that shit imagine playing 2d games in 2020 lmao

How about Deepnest, for starters? No one can earnestly say that they enjoyed that.

It fucking sucks when a big time autist has the exact same opinions as you and keeps spamming them to the point where if you are truly honest about how you feel about the game you get labeled and dismissed as being that autist

ok nevermind after reading I think he is that guy
Still, he's right about the lack of rpg mechanics

Too long didn't read.

Most popular and successful games decide the characteristics of a genre.
Hollow Knight is one of the most popular recent metroidvanias, if not ever. It is called "metroidvania", so metroidvania genre is games that are similar to Hollow Knight. Not the other way around.

Also weapons or whatever the fuck you were spewing don't matter. The genre is defined by 2D sidescroller like gameplay, large maze-like maps, interconnectivity etc. Nothing else.

You're both underselling how big of an impact charms. They are extremely numerous and varied and have a large impact on how you play.

Hollow Knight is not a Metroidvania.

Yeah, because nobody on Zig Forums will engage on the topic of hollow knight. It's like "nono, you just dont understand" and "hollow knight >everything"
Because sometimes you have to manage your resources and maybe decide to visit this part later or some shit. But in terms of said crystal peak, if you are there, you are trapped.
I am. I've been trying to force myself to finish hk 8 times I think, and I seriously want to like it anb fit in with everyone, see the brilliance of this flash game looking bloat. I can barely last through royal water ways, I get so bored and annoyed.

Newsflash newfags and colossal faggots. This is the same dedicated autist that makes an anti-hollow knight thread per day because he loves the game more than any of you. He understands that Zig Forums only responds to contrarianism so he endlessly churns out fake hate and is rewarded with 100 (you)s defending his favorite game daily.

I enjoyed it.

>Hollow Knight is limited to one weapon, a few spells, and charms that slightly augment your playstyle but at the end of the day it always revolves around your one simple weapon.
Wow! Just like Castlevania!

I always participate in these threads, and I hate hollow knight. Newsflash for you, there are people who detest v adored filler the game.

Are you at it again, you autistic idiot?

They really didn't grip me. I felt obliged to always have certain ones equipped, which left little space for the actually interesting ones.
I was actually just wondering if he was a huge falseflagger all along.

>Calls something autistic
>Goes on a multiparagraph rant about the thing
It's like clockwork

Have you played any of the games past Rondo of Blood? This is a really weird post.

Yes it is.

>Metroidvania games feature a large interconnected world map the player can explore, though access to parts of the world is often limited by doors or other obstacles that can only be passed once the player has acquired special items, tools, weapons or abilities within the game. Acquiring such improvements can also aid the player in defeating more difficult enemies and locating shortcuts and secret areas, and often includes retracing one's steps across the map. Through this, Metroidvania games include tighter integration of story and level design, careful design of levels and character controls to encourage exploration and experimentation, and a means for the player to become more invested in their player character. Metroidvania games typically are sidescrolling platformers, but can also include other genre types. Though popularized on consoles during the 1990s, the genre saw a resurgence starting in the 2000s due to a number of critically praised, independently developed games.

I'm literally autistic and even I wouldn't get this butthurt about a video game

Attached: uhhh.png (53x44, 535)

not him but
>metroidvania games use game design and mechanics that are similar to games from these two series
What does HK take from Castlevania?

It's not.

you also have to be retarded to be fixating on hating one specific videogame for literal years, mundane autism doesnt cut it
it's like that guy that hates the colorful horse show and starts spamming the same pictures everytime someone mentions anything about it or even post a tangentially related picture; he's been doing it since 2015 or for longer
seriously, go to /qa/, you might find the autism familiar

Oh and for the the record the "obligatory charms" are the ones that make you move faster, have a longer nail, and focus quicker

My whole post was literally the answer to your question retard.

Yes it is, read these repeatedly until your tiny head starts to comprehend what is written:

But all of that stuff is just Metroid. It doesn't factor in the stuff that SotN added to the formula. If it's just like Metroid, then it's not a MetroidVANIA.
