most fighting games nowadays play like garbage so only thing that makes them sell nowadays is guest characters, kids probably saw Terminator, Joker, and Rambo and thought "wowie", and that's the only reason people bought it. it's also why smash brothers is full blown garbage with it's fanbase, no gameplay so all people talk about is the characters from Sonic and Mario or whatever the flavor of the month is.

MK11 comp scene is comparatively dead you retard + the game has a 1 button comeback mechanic. The game sells great in no small part because it targets the casual audience.
