The translation work you want does not pay well.
I tried and failed to get a recently open position at Xseed for "localization editor" and the salary would only have been 30-40k, for a company based out of California.
Now, living in a flyover state, that's tolerable if remote work is allowed (who knows for how long though), but I already make more doing far less work and still get to fan translate shit I actually like with nobody telling me I have to be inclusive or trying to cancel me. I can do it anonymously, for free, put it out in the open, disappear, and anyone who hates it is just mad at a ghost by then. I can do this WHILE doing my "real" job.
The translation work you don't want DOES pay well, but you're under scrutiny from your employer and can be shitcanned over inaccuracies that vidya translators get a free pass on every other sentence.
