It's bullshit. Melee doesn't have online play and you literally cannot go to a local tournament anywhere in the world right now. If they were still selling the game that would be different, but to shut down a tournament that has the only way to play your game is bullshit. Capcom and Arcsys don't have any issues with their players hosting tournaments over Parsec for their older titles with bad online. It's just Nintendo.

They already bought it though idiot. How Nintendo has treated its customers these past years is why I stopped buying Nintendo shit after the 3DS. They've ruined any chance of a sub-culture (Flipnote 3d could've had a western online but didn't, miiverse wasn't enough) they cancel fan-projects that wouldn't cost them anything and would make them more money (fan games, to hack a, fan translations to in released games) and then they go and steal something but then release a shittier version (Mario royale). Look at Nintendo online. Is it even worth 20 bucks a year? You could argue Xbox gives way more for its price. And online play is still shitty. Fuck Nintendo.
