I am not a "brainiac" or anything like that but art to be art must have the following characteristics:
> They are strictly for contemplation.
> They have no practical use, unlike the arts applied to everyday objects or those designed for mere entertainment.
> They are enjoyed through the visual and auditory senses, considered superior, which omit the practices directed at touch, taste or smell.
> They have been deliberately conceived in the context of a consecrated aesthetic tradition, either as continuity or as a rupture, which excludes popular art.
> They focus on aesthetic values.
Video games do not meet any of these parameters. In conclusion: Videogames ARE NOT ART.
Videogames are not art
Videogames have practical uses?
Numerous people are using games as a way to showcase their skill and passion, which to me underscores the fact that games are.
We're living in an era where, just like with painting and how you may purchase a canvas and paint, just about anyone can start crafting games and express themselves through their work.
Whether or not your game is "marketable" or "profitable" is up for you do decide, and ultimately does not matter. Some devs don't even want to make money, just convey their feelings and ideas.
It is also extremely naive to try to confine the term "art" into one or two bulletin points, and then try to use them against games. Double so when some of the items, such as games having "no practical uses", are just outright false. The amount of tangential learning and natural interaction with people the games have brought us cannot be understated. Even the simple idea of using vidya to relax and have a break from the taxing daily lives makes them highly "practical".
>They are enjoyed through the visual and auditory senses
Applies to 99.9% of all "art" ever created through the history of man kind. However, games by their very definition incorporate interaction as a core element of their experiences.
The first one is already bullshit. Homer and Shakespeare created works in which entertainment was really important and their works are universally considered art.
Art is subjective, retard. Who the fuck are you to tell us what is and isn't art?
You're an autist and a retard OP
Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of Zig Forums are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!
Tell me why. Or your post just doesn't make sense.
You're a trip fag
>> They are strictly for contemplation.
bull hit
>Tripfag
>Claiming concrete parameters to define Art
>I am not a "brainiac"
Yeah, we gathered that much.
There is no objectivity you are right. But ... the rules keep changing.
There are factors:
> Time
> Society
> Individuality
Oh I see you are, irrational. My mistake.
Not really, they are not my parameters in the first place.
Video games are toys
Please learn a better command of the English language before posting again.
If you're actually following someone else's parameters for what defines art, you're clearly not capable of completely appreciating art or fully understand what it is. There is no concrete definition for art, think for yourself.
>I am not a "brainiac" or anything
That much is certainly clear
You already had your shitty thread deleted, autist.
They take the best aspects of other mediums and mash them together to create the best experiences possible. Visuals of a movie, length of a book, music, etc... of course they are art. They literally combine everything into one great thing.
Okay honey.
So why videogames are not recognized by the world?
It just gets more and more pretentious.
no, retard. /thread
So let me get this straight. Not only do you think art is defined by some set parameters, but you also think that the entire world needs to recognize something as art for an individual to consider it art? You're a fucking sheep.
user, the previous thread was not mine.
I decided to start this after seeing the previous one.
Tell me why or your post just doesn't make sense.
Art is the tangible result of creative expression.
Provided a game has some evidence of its creators actually giving a fuck (e.g. anything beyond the most blatantly soulless corporate cashgrabs), it qualifies.
The differences of thought are very small, the only thing that differentiates us from the others is time, society and individuality.
How can you say that I am a sheep? if you don't even know me it's not that simple, this post can be a simple bait and no one would know...
We've already told you why you're a retard, retard.
I see that you like to insult to insult. Beautiful...
Yes retard. Now fuck off.
Video games are toys. No amount of circle jerking will make it an art form that is taken seriously.
No.
Games I like are art. Games you like are shit
>the only thing that differentiates us is time society and individuality
Holy shit, not sure if you're a retarded shitposter or you actually think you sound intelligent
Who cares? Have fun, art lags
> They are enjoyed through the visual and auditory senses, considered superior, which omit the practices directed at touch, taste or smell.
They are though. You don't touch videogames.
I do not speak English very well. I was referring to the thought we have towards a work.
> which omit practices directed at touch, taste or smell.
Wow, so video games don't use touch?
Nothing to do with your grammar, rather saying the only thing that differentiates us is these three massive concepts that encapsulate all of human existence
Art doesn’t save its a trash ass “game”
You can’t define art. I can fling shit on a wall in a rage and call it art. Fuck off
