Isn't the Defender the best fighter the empire has? Why would anyone fly a Tie Fighter or Interceptor when you can choose a Defender instead?

if you're talking gameplay the project lead acknowledged that both the b-wing and defender are more powerful starfighters but they're going to be balanced for the game to not render all the others obsolete.
they don't talk about how exactly they'll do that. defender is a 'Fighter' class and b-wing is a 'Bomber' class, but he claims the TIE/LN and Y-wing will still be viable.
dunno about the TIE/LN but the Y-wing is total shit compared to the TIE Bomber so I'm guessing the B-wing is going to end up being the superior choice.

they didn't have a working ranking system for a month after release and while it's technically fixed now, unless the user actively resets their rank they'll remain permanently rank 0 and get matched with noobs so the skill-based matchmaking remains completely busted with people who don't reset their rank and just want to stomp.
it's the same company that managed to fuckup a WWII battlefield though so I blame myself for expecting anything.

What does the cockpit stay relative to in flight? The nearest planet? Wouldn't this be really disorienting for a pilot?

Worse, fixing matchmaking seemed to be low priority for them, so most of the player base has dried up now anyway.

I don't think whoever came up with that realized that you don't really feel disorientation by turning "upside down" in space, though I guess the actual spinning force might cause sickness if you are constantly doing barrel rolls.

I also don't understand the point of a rotating cockpit. Also, going by the mass difference, wouldn't it be that the cockpit spins while the rest of the ship remains stationary? It just doesn't make sense to have the cockpit move at all.

I know X-wings for sure had their own inertial stabilizers to compensate the centrifugal force and prevent the pilot from being in harm because of it.

Remember when there were the B-Wings and then in TLJ they have new stupid bombers that depend on dropping the bombs while directly over top of the target while flying very slowly full of active explosives and apparently no shielding?

Just so the pilot has a stable platform.
