how come there was a surge of youtubers blatantly from Zig Forums starting around ~2012 but nothing really similar afterwards?

mecha, matthewmatosis, fitz, gamingbrit, hyperbithero, instig8ivejournalism, best gamers, brutalc, flimsii, mandalore etc are all from that era, it's like everyone on here had the same idea all at once and nothing similar has happened since. there was also that Gather Your Party website which died off and no one has really tried to replicate

I don't follow YouTube gaming at all. Is there currently anything remotely similar to fitz or TBG these days?

There's sseth who leeched off fitz and flimsii's popularity then pandered even hard to 4channers and is now bigger than before, but at this point I'm 99% certain he makes threads about old games from Zig Forums recs then just uses the comments in the thread for his jokes in his videos. There's really not much originality in it.

I do miss Fitz though, his videos were fun to watch

The e-celeb hatred wasn't really in full effect back then it that sort of era.
I remember people making threads whenever kazztawdal uploaded a new video and nobody complained. (btw kazztawdal killed himself for anyone who still remembered him)

Sseth was pretty good originally, but now it's just blatant pandering. At this point it's quite literally just jokes from a thread with video game footage over it. I can dream that Flimsii, Sseth, and Fitz will come back to the good old days of video making

At least he discusses games no one else on the platform does in depth without spending 6 hours breathing into a microphone. Even if he is just a walking meme at this point his content is still better than 99% of his competitors.
