Shadow the Hedgehog was for very late boomers, or possibly the few years that fall between boomers and zoomers that are hard to strictly categorize.

Playing this game, you can tell Iizuka was tired of making 3D sonic games. It's not a terrible game like 06, but there's a noticeable air of exhaustion about it ( both in the visuals and the level design )

This had a chance to be one of the best 3D Sonic games but they blew it with a shit engine that had no improvements made over Sonic Heroes.

It was soulfull as fuck

Controls are slightly better than Heroes. Not as slippery, plus the level design doesn't rely nearly as much on bottomless pits. It's also more polished

5 year olds were not the core audience of Shadow the Hedgehog. It was made more for people who already knew about Sonic and wanted that thing. Some 5 year olds may have played it, but it's far from zoomercore and I guess the majority of players were quite older than 5.
