What are the chances of a Switch Pro happening next year?
What are the chances of a Switch Pro happening next year?
2022 and it will be next Gen not a “pro”
Not impossible. The thing is like 4 years old by then.
I really don't think they're gonna make a pro model of the Switch unless it's something basic like having extra storage. The only reason anyone thinks they'd do it is because of the 3DS but it's a lot more work to optimize a home console in a meaningful way than a portable console.
Zero. The Switch is still selling too well for that. I eventually expect a new 3DS tier upgrade but it won't be a game changer, dynamic resolution games will run slightly better and smoother but if you think Nintendo will make a premium version with cutting edge chip and 1080p screen you're out of touch with how this company works.
If it was going to happen, it isn't going to now, Nintendo's still dysfunctional because of COVID
You're getting a revision next year, but it might not be the "pro" you think it is
They will and everyone is missing the point. It will still play all the same games but with 4k up scaling support. So you can stick to your normal switch for your HD titles or switch Pro with higher resolution, that will be the only difference.
>Actually thinking a $300 handheld could do 4K
0
You mean like the switch outputting a 4k image but upscaled from 720p? What's the point? 4k TVs already have built in upscalers.
When has nintendo ever released an enchanced version of any of their consoles?
That's simply not they're M O.
DSi
New Nintendo 3DS
those are handhelds
And so is the Switch
dlss, and it wouldn't be 300 bucks
Switch is a home console with portability, same as the WiiU. They are not handhelds and won't be getting improved versions.
100%
if it doesnt, switch sales will tank
>dynamic resolution games will run slightly better and smoother
That's exactly what they're going to do if they're going to do it, and I'm wondering if they're going to do that at all. I've been itching to play Smash Ultimate lately and was pondering buying one now. I'd wait if there's even a marginal upgrade coming.
>4k TVs already have built in upscalers.
This is a good point honestly, but I've played standard Blu-Rays on my OG PS4 which only outputs at 1080p and then later bought a dedicated 4K Blu-Ray player that upscales standard 1080p discs to 4K and there a slightly noticeable improvement in image quality. Having the console's dock itself upscale to 4K might be the best way to do it, but it's probably just an autistic level of improvement not worth worrying about.
not 4k but 1440p is totally doable for games made for the switch like mario kart and 1080p for more demanding games
nintendo is facing a huge problem now however, the switch's cpu is WAY underpowered compared to the PS5 and xbox, so no more ports from here on out
nintendo either open up their wallet and make an actual decent console or they'll go back to wii u days
switch only got some PS4 ports because the PS4 had a 2008 tier cpu
You're crazy, the switch is 100% handheld bread. I can even tell you how it came to be: Miyamoto was experimenting with the successor to 3DS and someone noticed the tegra chip was good enough for a big screen experience, all they had to do was find a way to hook it to the TV but still make it playable which naturally led them to a dock system an removable controllers came as an effective measure to keep the retail price in check to compete with the PS4/One.
Either that or a new console in 2-3 years.
I think an updated switch is most likely, given the success of the switch and failure of the wii u
They will need new hardware to compete, but they hit such gold with the switches design I can't see them making any drastic changes to the form factor any time soon.
Not only that but zelda games always sell hardware. OoT sold n64s, majoras mask sold expansion paks, TP's tech demo sold gamecubes and skyward sword sold wiimotion+.
Botw2 will release alongside some form of new hardware, absolutely guaranteed.
I expect a TV 'Dock Pro' with a new and improved SoC by next Christmas.
Not worth it to make another portable rn. Maybe 2024
In a vacuum the Switch looks like a handheld, but sales figures compare it to the PS4/PS5 and Xbox which are home consoles, effectively equating it to a home console. if it was a handheld, it would be compared to mobile markets like the Google play store and Apple app store.
>so no more ports from here on out
PS5 and Xbox have nogaems.
Explain Switch lite then.
That's why the Switch Pro cannot be a portable. It has to be a standard home console maybe with a state of the art NVIDIA chipset they could later reuse in the portable refresh. TV mode is where the Switch is lacking rn in comparison with its competitors. With the current Switch at $300 and selling well enough it makes little sense to make a slightly improved portable system for a $100 more. Nintendo needs to catch up on performance and resolution at least a little bit
I agree but that means the switch will be effectivly obsolete once Ninty starts developing all their first party up to current hardware. The switch cant even run some 2019 games. Their will be no point to owning one outside of using it as a smash/mariokart machine (which it kind of already is)
I feel like every single year since the switch was released or perhaps even before that people have been talking about a pro "next year".
There's plenty of life on the Switch just like there was on all of Nintendo's portables. But projects like Bayonetta 3 or MP4 beg for better hardware. Nintendo themselves wouldn't make exclusives for it until the release of an actual Switch 2 but you can imagine third party games like Doom or Witcher 3 would embrace a performance boost.
I think Nintendo themselves look at Apple's ecosystem model. At least that's what I've heard
