No seriously, to anyone who did get a Saturn what Genesis sequels were you hoping for?
When people bought a Nintendo 64 they were looking forward to the new games for Mario, Zelda, F-Zero, Metroid (lol)

I had just figured out to put headphones in my Sega genesis-Co Sega cd. I already had resident evil in ps1 by the time I bought star fox on 64. Cruisin USA bitch!!!
I wanted one because the NiGHTS Into Dreams kiosk was really cool at the store. flying around the 3D dream world in that demo left an impression on me
my family ended up getting an N64 for Christmas instead but was better in the end. NiGHTS is still a pretty cool game, lots of soul
The Saturn does have quality games and a lot of soul but the shit marketing in the US, no effort in localization, and no proper Sonic game really damaged the reputation
I wonder now if our parents didn’t understand disc but cartridge was just pop in and blow...hmmm
I have never seen a Saturn in person. I don't think anyone in Canada owned one.
>inb4 zoomer
I'm 28.
>surprise releasing your brand new console at an industry only event before the internet was widespread and before most devs even had dev kits and with zero marketing
literally what the FUCK were they thinking
Streets of Rage 4. lol.
Virtua fighter 2
Honestly, was a good thing it didn't come until recently
The Saturn installment became Fighting Force and the Dreamcast version?
Well.....
youtube.com
Never had a Saturn but I always wanted to play Shining Force 3.
As a kid i thought astral looked cool lol i have no idea how it actually plays though
there was also shining force 3(or was it 4) that i saw. Other than that i really don't remember seeing anything else for it? I guess NiGHTS would have been cool as a kid, i remember looking at it and being like, "whoa cool you can fly!? holy shit!"
SEGA of America focused solely on quantity over quality even during the Genesis days
Sonic and they were great. Zoomers wouldn't understand.
Not only that it was expensive as fuck. That shit cost 400 bones back then. Sony PS1 was coming out a few months after. Cost 100 dollars less. Major nintendo franchises jumped ship to sony during this period.
I bet its safe to say Nintendo lost at least 50 percent of the people who bought a snes and nes to sony
But yeah dude it does have alot of great games. Powerslave on the saturn is unironically dope af.
Similar experience. Never seen one in person until i was an adult. Everyone i knew had a ps1 or n64
Arcade ports
The Saturn proved the same thing the genesis did, you can't take your industry position for granted
SEGA's main audience during the Genesis were
>Graphicfags
>Maturefags (look up how much SEGA MK sold compared to SNES MK)
>Sports game enthusiasts
>Arcadefags
Now look at the time the Saturn was in
>Everyone was heading into the 3D era
>Nintendo laxed their stance on violence and Sony embraced it altogether
>The Saturn dropped the absolute ball in the sports game department, losing it completely to Sony
>Arcades in America were dying
32, I only knew a single person that had a Saturn.
Why are the controller ports shaped like an HDMI port?
This. I’m 29, USA. Never seen one in person. I don’t think I remember them even being available in stores.
I really wanted a saturn for Virtua Fighter. I was obsessed with that game. I held off on getting it because I saw what they did to the Sega CD and 32X and I didn't want to get burned.
I ended up getting a playstation on launch day and was glad I did.
All true , for sure all true. heap on the 32x that came out literally 8 months prior to Saturn's release and Sega really messed that shit up.
KB toys wouldn't sell any Saturn accessories at all . Imagine working at Sega and just like a few years before 1996 and you were literally neck and neck for the number one spot in gaming.
Then now you can barely find the new console at any stores lmao. Master system games stayed in stores long than Saturn
I was a sega kid and everything. But what for sure sold me on the PS1 was Tekken, crash and blasto.
>blasto
Seriously?
Yeah i thought it was gonna be a good game at 10
Well, sliding contact connectors seem to be ubiquitous these days, where pin and socket seems to be obsolete. I guess they were ahead of the curve
>grew up with the PS1 and N64
>only experienced a little bit of Saturn
>discover emulation a few years later
>get to dive deeper into the PS1 and N64 libraries, Saturn emulation seeming far off and even then I only knew a few games for it
>realize the N64 had a pitiful library
>still enjoy PS1 pretty often
>eventually get into real hardware
>pick up a saturn knowing a little more about the library, wanting to do my own exploration
>discover a massive amount of excellent arcade style games
>discover top notch games like the panzer dragoon series
>literally hundreds of excellent games from fighters, shooters, sega arcade games, 2D action, beat em up, platformers, etc, basically just 16 bit games but with 32-bit fidelity
>realize Saturn was the real second best console that gen
If you don't love Saturn, you don't love video games. Happy 26th birthday.
At which point did you transition?
Holy shit tomorrow is the 22th birthday
*26th
Never, I'll always be a man because I love the Saturn.
