Does no one remember how fucking awful the PS4/Xbox One/ Wii U launch season was?

If Elden Ring doesn't turn out to be near revolutionary, which at this point I'm pretty sure it's going to be as fucked as DS2 was, then I'm probably just going to call it quits for the next few years and just play on my backlog of games while finding a new hobby.

Beyond RoR2, Ori, Kenshi, Rimworld and H-games almost nothing has been worth the time.

Not even just indies, AA games too. There's been a whole fucking host of AA games out the last few years I've absolutely loved that're capturing the very essence of why I love games so much to begin with.

Just one example, Pathfinder Kingmaker is unquestionably the best BG2 like game since BG2. Playing it I was immediately back in the same mindset and same feelings as when I was enjoying BG2, it was legitimately amazing.

Asuka is a drug addict that spends the entirety of the series trying to get her next shot of her Eva Pilot Junkie Fix.

As soon as Asuka is cut off from her Eva Pilot Drug, she is thrown into a fucking drug cutoff coma.

When Shinji and Rei get cut off from their Eva Pilot Drug, not a single thing happens to them because neither of them are Eva Pilot Addicts like Asuka is.

And never once doe Asuka even make an attempt to kick her Eva Pilot Drug addiction. She's just as much of a shitty person in Episode 22 as she is in her introductory scene in Episode 8

No. Not at all.

Rei is a girl who had about 90% of her character arc before the series even began, and who you see this primarily through flashbacks.

Where Asuka rages and screams, Rei has completely accepted her background as a clone, who she is and what she wants, she's found a way to connect to humanity and the biggest change she goes through is with connecting to Shinji himself. Ep3 summarises a good amount of this.

Is massively overselling it. Asuka has been completely manipulated by NERV for years. She's addicted to praise and incredibly, obsessively needy (I honestly wonder how many people have legitimately gone back and watched the TV series through Asuka's breakdowns, where she's outright screaming how she can't use the same bath water as Shinji, it's not cute and it's not meant to be, it's mentally fucked up) but that's not self inflicted. She got groomed into that position hard, and then NERV threw her away and her life ended. She was literally irrelevant for the rest of the series.

She could have fixed herself, Shinji does, but she didn't. That's on her. But it's not her fault she was messed up in the first place, and having her mind fucked by an Angel also isn't on her, that's just the cruel reality of the job, and another instance of NERV throwing away anything problematic instead of trying to fix it.

Except Shinji was mindfucked by Iruel and Rei was mindfucked by Armisael and neither one of them broke. Asuka is the only one the angels defeated, and Asuka got the easiest treatment of the three. Shinji got black holed and Rei literally got tentacled.

Asuka had to watch a powerpoint slideshow that showed her front and center how shitty of a person she is. Does that treatment push her to change? No it doesn't.
Even Ebeneezer Scrooge was shown the error of his ways and changed for the better. Asuka got the Scrooge treatment and it only made her worse:

There's no question whether or not Rei is superior to Asuka. That's already been answered.

If Asuka was the best girl, then Shikinami wouldn't exist. And even if she did, she would be refused by fans that would find the very idea of her disgusting!

Shikinami is Asuka with all her edges and flaws sanded off. Trauma? Minimised! Obsession to the point of self harm? Gone! Problematic affection towards Kaji? Nope! Abusive and abrasive tsundere as a means of keeping control in a situation? Nada, she's just a generic "B-Baka!" Tsundere now!

They took Asuka and turned her into a template character, the kind of generic Tsun character you'd see on any seasonal harem show. She's got absolutely zero of the interesting features, problems or hangups that the original had, she's an insult to the original Asuka, practically a parody, or the kind of Mary-Sue bullshit version you'd see in fanfiction. And that's not enough, they gave her Rei's iconic poses in all the promotional material too! And they even gave her an angel connection, the thing that made Rei so important and plot relevant over Asuka who was tossed to the side and never mattered after she tried to kill herself (Shinji literally doesn't bother visiting her in hospital lul).

So obviously the Asuka loving fans detested Shikinami, right? They hated her! What an insult to their waifu, what a mockery of the girl they've supported all these years!

Oh wait, no... they loved her. Because that's the Asuka they wrote about and imagined all these years. Not the character she actually was, just a hot red-head whose "tsun" melts within 20seconds.
