Yakuza

Never played a Yakuza game before. Should I play 0 first and then get 7?

yes

Yes but you don’t need to, the games are incredibly far apart story wise on the time line and gameplay is completely different

You will inevitably start to feel bored. You will walk from pointless conversation to pointless conversation. You will read and read and read while character models stare at each other lifelessly. You will do the same unchallenging fights hundreds of times over where enemies pose no threat. You will stare at cutscenes that play out in the slowest way possible. You'll tell yourself the story has gripped you while trying to ignore how badly written it is.
You will wonder why Zig Forums and various ecelebs hyped up this series, and begin telling yourself that YOU must be wrong, not them. You'll tell yourself it's good just to feel a part of something.

That's what you're in for.

This but only if you’re gay

Fair enough

>0 first and then get 7
Don't even bother with the series, retard

>gameplay is completely different
lmao

...It is though. It's an entirely new JRPG system

Yeah that's why this game is a laughing stock

96% on steam, literally the best yakuza game yet.

This. I'm not gonna fanboy here, but Yakuza is a legitimately great series. Plus it's even more accessible with the remastered edition. There's no excuse now. Just don't play these games back to back.

How do I defeat Tenjo and is the nigga after even worse? Crew is arround 53 and I barely managed Kiryu, but since the boss after was easy I went directly into Tokyo Tower

I beat him at 50, he’s weak to lightning just make sure you use ichibans skill that lets him survive insta kills and chip him down, idol saeko on heals is needed, enforcers are useful too

>Beat 0 and try to play K1
>Enemies don't explode into cash
It's just not the same...

Thought I'd hate 7 but I've been loving it so far

The bubble popped

Anyone else notice the subtitles in the dub and sub are different? Really makes a replay interesting

It's intentional, they did the same thing with Judgment and the response to that is why we have it in 7.

This is only the case for 3 and 4, the worst games in the series.

Currently playing through them in chronological order and can attest that so far, 0 is the best place to start as it's the prequel that sets everything up. By the time you get to Kiwami 1, you'll have a greater understanding of every character and their relationships with everyone else.

It also makes the final boss of Kiwami 1 that much more impactful

at least play Kiwami 1 before playing 7. Y0 is practically one gigantic prologue to the first game but ultimately what happens in Y0 is not relevant to the rest of the series whereas the first game is central to every other game with few exceptions

Japan hasn't been the same ever since the asset bubble
Some people didn't get over it even by now

Kiwami is not a replacement for 1 as a standalone game. It's a sequel to 0, you do not play it first, you play it after 0.

He's easier than Kiryu and the final boss after him is a joke. Congrats, you beat the game.

Play 4, then 3, then original 1 on PS2 and then 7. Because clearly you want to play it in the most retarded way possible

Play 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 back to back
7 can go choke on a bag of a million dicks

Id say dont rush it.

Play 0, if you enjoy your time with it, go through kiwami and kiwami 2.
Those three are all on PC, so that's the route I have been going. On kiwami 2 right now and really enjoying my time.

Probably gonna pick up 7 whenever I finish those.

yeah i meant he shuold play K1 after Y0 before going to LAD. Although I don't see why he couldn't start at K1, although I wouldn't suggest doing that.

Yes that does make sense to play them in order. Playing 0 then jumping to 7 would be stupid of me.

The correct order for playing the Yakuza series is:
1>4>5>2>0>6>1>Dead Souls>5 and then finish it off with Yakuza 0 again but on easy mode this time.

Zero is both the best and worst Yakuza game. It's probably the most fun fuck around and see whats up game, but the story is a fucking joke that features plenty of braindead situations, including the ending sequence where one character does a 180 degree flip in character for no reason because they realised they'd fucked up setting him up for Yakuza 1.

Sick to death of the stupid "nooo I won't kill you, I respect you too much lol" shit that happens after 90% of the boss fights.

Fuck if I know, man. I hate how Kiryu plays. I get stun locked constantly. When I'm with my boy Majira (?) I'm taking down an ocean of yakuza.

Well Tenjo was a super chump at first but at 50% he starts oneshotting my dudes and it took like 1ßminutes to get him there anyway.... how long it took is really my problem or is that normal?

>Although I don't see why he couldn't start at K1
Multiple substories are direct continuations from 0, Nishiki's story continues from 0 and at least some of it expects you to have experienced that story to develop him further, Majima Everywhere is basically one giant 0 reference fest (Minus the Dead Souls bit) with Komaki's story itself continuing stuff from 0, game mechanics are improved upon from 0 (Specifically instant style changing) so you're basically downgrading your experience by going from K1 to 0 with Kiryu specifically, there's a substory added specifically to explain something Sera does which doesn't really matter in the context of 1 itself but when you add him being in 0 this needed to be addressed, etc.

lmao

>N-NOOOOO DON'T START WITH THE LATEST GAMES!!!
>DIG UP YOUR OLD PS2 AND BUY THIS JANKY TERRIBLY TRANSLATED PIECE OF SHIT FOR $100 ON EBAY AND GET PUT OFF PLAYING THE SERIES FOREVER

>introduced a bunch of new characters who never appeared again
>protags refuse to kill for reasons?
I could understand kiryu not killing because they like to pretend he’s never killed, but why do that with majima

Alot of the bosses in the last few chapters are really spongy. Unless you do a shit ton of grinding beforehand and get all the best equipment then it's perfectly normal for the bosses to take a while to beat.

Why are you pasting this? I've seen this exact same reply in several threads.

The best parts of Yakuza were always the side stories, I wish there was a game dedicated to just doing random side stories, fucking around in Japan and doing side quests instead of fighting a bunch of mooks every few seconds, avoiding a huge fuck off dude who will steal all your money, having a literal shit tier story unfold right in front of you etc.

I mean Shenmue is probably close to the idea I'm thinking of, but in 2020 Shenmue is fucking trash with a dogshit overarching storyline.

Start with 0, but please do replay it once you're done with 1-5
Many substories get significantly better
Just did the doll girl friendship again her calling Majima daddy and then him admitting it has a nice ring at the end holy fuck it hit me hard fucking gook bitch

That substory made me tear up too

the dogshit 'hurr durr we need to subvert the viewers expectations' by assuming they're going to die only to get put in prison instead.

Why does everyone shit on 3? I just got to chapter 10 in it and its not that much worse than 2 and the story has a whole lot more intrigue than 1. The only stupid shit for me so far is Kazama's secret brother and even then I still don't know if they'll handle it poorly

>noooo don't play old games despite the fact that they've all been remade and updated to suit modern needs
>play the new one first because ummmmmmm

>Majima's new theme remix is even more intense and fast-paced than before

I feel the reason for this (in my headcanon) is because Ichiban is at a comparatively lower power level than the big dogs of previous games

play it how you want. I started with K1 and didn't feel I missed out too much playing through 0 later on. You can still connect the dots. I view it like Star Wars. You can start with the OT and go release order or you can start with the PT and go chronologically.

murder's a big deal and majimas best pal got thrown in jail for murder so he probably doesn't wanna cross tat bridge

>remade
you mean ruined.

Oooh boy strap in because more retardation is coming

im a 0fag through and through, that post was directed at ps2fags

Play the originals then I don't care what you do

If you just wanna play Like A Dragon then don't even bother with 0, it'll do nothing for you. Not only is the gameplay completely different but the story is set more than 30 years before the newest game, with a completely different set of characters.
It's a good ass game, don't get me wrong, but playing it just to skip ahead 6 games and play the new one will ruin the experience, especially if you wanna go back and play the ones you skipped later on.

Ok lets talk about murder for one second here.

Them talking about murder being a line they will cross when they get there while surrounded by hundreds of dead Yakuza members was one of the dumbest fucking things around.

That car chase where dozens are very clearly killed

Like??? what the fuck was up with the writing?

Why would playing 7 after 0 ruin anything when they're so different from each other, and nothing gets spoiled? It's just a different flavour of ice cream. He can go back to the older series whenever.

that was all in self defense

There's NO reason not to play 0-K1-K2 first. 3 and 4 are a bit rough these days I admit, 5 is great but you may already be filtered by that point and as much as I love 6 I don't think you can really love it without the context of the previous games. But 0-K1-K2, there's NO reason not to play them before 7.

gameplay segments and cutscenes exist in parallel universes

Best remix in the entire series. I think all the remixes in 7 really convey how fucking powerful these guys are against a (comparatively speaking) schmuck

6 is the best game in the series simply because you get to fuck about with New Japan wrestlers like Naito or Okada.

Don't touch 7 unless you've played Dead Souls

You guys weren't kidding about the mahjong difficulty bump.
>Riichis within three turns three times in a row.
>One guy got an ippatsu.
>Another guy Pon'd a Red Dragon and then Ron'd the very next tile placed.
>One guy Riichis a turn after me then Tsumos less than two turns later.
>AI continuously getting a tsumo within 5 draws.
>Just got Ron'd 4 draws in.
This is just on the Normal difficulty one.

You can play the games in any order you want, just make sure you play Dead Souls first. It is crucial to the story

Play Zero, then Like a Dragon. Maybe Judgement if you like both.

The rest of the Yakuza games are kind of rough. 4,5, and 6 become slogs with huge spongy enemies, forcing you do side content to stay strong. I know a lot of people hate Like a Dragon because it's a JRPG but Yakuza has always been based around stat based combat, and the only thing changed is active vs. turns.

oh SHIT i just realized right now

>yakuza 6
> super smart ancient jap controlling country from shadows
> his big secret is he stole funds to make yamato mk2
> kurusus nerd son is actually jacked
> mob boss shoots bar momma in the head but not really because reasons?
It might not be on the level of rubber bullets but holy fuck yakuza 6 has some dumb shit in it

>4,5, and 6 become slogs with huge spongy enemies, forcing you do side content to stay strong
What the fuck? How bad are you at video games?

I'm just starting with Kiwami. I hear people say that it's way worse than K2; why is that? Everything seems decent to me so far (just finished the funeral section).

Like a dragon is good, the rest are bad beat em ups with ok side content.

Is Judgement as good as people say? Or should I just buy dark souls remastered or 3 months of ps now?
