Controls are worse.

Awkward controls.

Zig Forums got filtered by the easy as fuck controls

Because it is literally just sm64 with slightly worse controls

>they didn't play it

Hidden gem

a very redundant game, probably shoulda saved it for 3DS

Everyone already played the original, but this was far more entertaining. It was always fun kick-sliding up to the top of the castle from the side as Wario

The extra content is cool, wish they put some of it in the switch version.
Original Mario 64 was perfectly adapted to it’s controller, while this version forces you an inferior control method.
As a ‘tech demo’ it was still pretty impressive for the time IMO.

>controls are garbage
>extra content ranges from great (minigames, new characters) to shit (most of the new stars, new enemy designs)

I wish Wario was playable in another Mario game. Couldn't care if he sucked compared to the rest, I just wanna play as the greedy bastard in a new adventure.

because of "muh d-pad controls" and/or "muh soulless art direction"

I managed to cheese my way up on left side with Luigi. Backflip spin to get to grass. Then back flip spin twice to get up the slope

>uglier
>you can't play as Mario until you unlock him
>nobody wants to play as Yoshi or Wario
>new content is crap
>d-pad controls destroy the game
>nub controls are a poor substitute for analog
>the minigames were the only good thing about it and not worth the asking price alone

SM64DS ptsd is real, for both those who dislike it and those who pretended to like it because they were DS kids who never experienced the original

They're gonna have to remake the remake.

I still don't know how the fuck I can't find the last 3 stars in this release.

Mario 64 remake for Mario's 50th anniversary for 60 dollars and only for a limited time

I bet you're that guy who thinks the 3DS magically changes the digital input to analog input.

>minigames
I used this game purely for the card games. I don't regret my purchase.

Playing 64 with a keyboard feels more natural. It isnt just the 4 directions. There is no in between with inputs, so mario wont turn the distance to the side im pointing at, he will just snap to it. They also ruined the physics alot. Overral bad port.

Controls while not impossible wasn't fun to play. in fact the mini games are talked about more

Weren't most of the minigames borrowed from NSMB anyway?

>4 directions
It's 8 way, retard.

>borrowed from NSMB
>borrowed from a game released years later

You know what I mean. And you are wrong about the controls being at best comperable to 64. It isnt as good as you grew up with.

Well I'll be damned.

because its soulless garbage

>And you are wrong about the controls being at best comperable to 64. It isnt as good as you grew up with.
If 8-way was an issue then Nintendo wouldn't have designed the GC and Wii analog sticks with an octagonal perimeter to force you into using only 8-way controls with the analog stick.

Because it uses the Dpad otherwise it's the superior version

>uglier
The 64 version was ugly as shit as well. 64DS simply gives them a modern design which is nice.
>you can't play as Mario until you unlock him
So? This isn't a legit complaint. You can unlock Mario in 30 mins and never need to change characters again.
>nobody wants to play as Yoshi or Wario
Wrong. There's tons of people who likes playing both characters.
>new content is crap
Pure contriaism. Everyone loves more stars and stages to do.
>d-pad controls destroy the game
You haven't even played the game if you think D-pad is fucking ass. The game was literally remade to work with the D-pad. It's not a fucking port, it's a remake on a different engine.
>nub controls are a poor substitute for analog
Yet again, not a big deal as it's a alternative set up.
>the minigames were the only good thing
about it and not worth the asking price alone
If you find minigames to be the only saving grace, why did you even pick up the game up? Should have bought NSMB instead.
I played both and I overall lean towards DS if I want more content to enjoy.
The only reason I go back to 64 is because of the modding scene.
You only proven people who shit on the DS version never played the game or barely remember it.

>nitpicky bullshit
As I expected from someone who spouts nonsense like soulless.
