they would have to fix a lot of glitches and make some changes. adding online means they'd have to balance the characters and that would change the meta. if they did all that, meleefags would cry and bitch about how it's not the same melee they remember and go back to playing the old version.

Prior to covid the majority of comp melee was at in-person tourneys on wiis and GCs

No one wants to play melee outside melee fags because it is an inferior product compared to all it's sequels. It just has it's niche because it's a fun Nintendo Kusoge like most older fighting games. Sure capcom and SNK release older games but that's because a large chunk of their main customer base wants them. I don't think even 10% of the 20 Million people who bought the last smash would buy this unless they added new characters and stuff.

I want a Melee port just for the single player content. Adventure Mode is fun.

The last console I bought was in 2006 and I'll never buy another for the rest of my life, so no thanks. Melee on PC is perfect and has 100x better net code than anything Nintendo has produced. Melee tournaments that aren't sponsored by Nintendo, so 90% of them, are fine. Summit 10 literally just happened an hour ago and it went off without a hitch.
