They started with the cooling and made everything else fit around it.
Big part of why it's smaller and will also last longer than six months, guess they learned a hard lesson...
Unless the fix it, I guess I'll be custom cooling this console as well. On my old Xbox 360 I ended up basically completely cutting the top off it, getting a custom mounting bracket for a cheaper $25 CPU cooler, and putting those passive VRAM/memory module heatsinks on everything I could see.

if it runs stably at that temperature then there really isn't a problem. specs enthusiasts always forget about shit being relative, relative in this case to material properties. not that I reckon sony is pushing the material science envelope in reality or anything, but if I'm getting stable performance and extra power even at 90 celsius then fuck it.
