are you glad FPS games are easier to navigate now?
Are you glad FPS games are easier to navigate now?
Doom wasn't particularly time-consuming to navigate since you move at like 50mph but I do still prefer levels that aren't completely pointless mazes, yes
I was gonna call you a retard but then I remembered shit like Gate to Limbo exists.
Pain floors aren't fucking fun Sandy.
I am glad when I find where I'm supposed to go without too much difficulty, but I don't think old FPS's were hard to navigate at all.
I got lost in FEAR longer than I ever did Doom, Quake, etc
the only level design i truly hated was in turok 2
No. The freedom of larger maps is worth occasionally getting lost, restricting game design to account for the worst case scenario of a player fucking up or missing something is how you make boring games. Sometimes I get lost or even have to take the bitch route and look things up but I'd still rather have that than corridors and waypoints.
has anyone ever duagnosed you as a fucking retard?
>duagnosed
Ironic. But he's not wrong, levels 4, 5, and 6 are pretty bullshit. 1, 2, and 3 are fine though.
I had to double check whether that background was actually from Daggerfall.
FUCK finding the dungeon exits in that game.
How is he a retard? The main issue with some of T2's levels is the environments looking too samey for how big the levels are. Makes it harder to orient where you are at times.
I don't play new FPS games, unless they're old FPS games, like Dusk or whatever.
and sure, anyone that makes 25+ minute Doom maps should be slapped. I'm here for the combat, not your retarded key and switch hunts.
How do you get lost in a game with an automap.
>i hope i won't waste 30 minutes of my life, looking for the exit
I will never understand this argument. You're already wasting your life playing a video game, why would you want the experience to be even shorter? It's the equivalent of a hiker complaining that there aren't roads for him to just drive everywhere.
There needs to be a balance between being forced to hug the right wall until you find the way out and linear corridor shooters. Original Doom for the most part was pretty good, episode two had some kinda screwy ones, but some of half life 1's sections were just the worst, and make me not want to replay it. Maybe it's because I played HL1 when I was younger than when I played doom. Still prefer half life 1 though
Hahahahahahahaha How The Fuck Is Getting Lost Real Hahahaha Nigga Just Open The Automap Like Nigga Press Tab Haha
>anyone that makes 25+ minute Doom maps should be slapped. I'm here for the combat, not your retarded key and switch hunts.
In my experience the 25+ minute maps are those designed around slaughter encounters.
I honestly kinda hate the huge maps in Doom 2. Less than ten levels into the game and you're already getting maps with 200+ enemies. It gets tiring.
aw yeah a bunch of fuckin lines are gonna help me navigate the place, this automap is fucking shit i cant see anything, takes me less time to navigate to find where im going than it is deciphering this shit
>sub-60 IQ retard literally can't read a map
I remember parts of Eviternity just being me wandering halls forever looking for whatever trigger they want me to trigger. Fuck that shit. I need to shoot some niggas.
Refueling Base is rad though.
based and Sandy Petersen-pilled
I literally cannot recall a single level from episode 2 outside of the first one, the final boss and containment area because of the music.
Everything else about it blends into this amorphous blob of annoying.
its literally a bunch of lines, there are no marked points of inerest whatsever like an actual fucking map has you are a nigger
I've think the only vanilla Doom map where I ended up not knowing where to go was that one city level in 2 with all the different buildings. Every other map makes it kinda obvious since you just need to follow where the demons are coming from.
Weak bait. Some early FPS games are like that. Wolfenstein was. Hexen too. But not Doom.
user...
Can you not read a road map either? That's also just a bunch of lines with road names on it without any pretty pictures? How the fuck did you not get lost IRL before GPS was made affordable for consumer devices?
>googoo baby need big arrow to point me directly to the exit
yowza
>literally can’t read a map without computer assistance
yes
running in circle is boring
Gray lines = I haven't been there yet
Blue line = blue door
How fuckin dumb are you?
>Hexen too
No, Hexen has fantastic level design.
This is what NuDoom garbage did to people.
Fuck Bethesda
>This is what NuDoom garbage did to people.
NuDoom is a symptom, not the cause.
Hexen is shit. Heretic is where it's at.
hahahahahaha you have no spatial reasoning skills because you never developed any and now your natural response is anger when you have to try - can you seriously not remember even generally what direction a dick shaped room was in?
it is NOT a bait.
the cause is mental retardation and sadly a lot of people are suffering under this condition
NuDoom is LITERALLY the reason retards are flocking to actual Doom before calling it shit if they don't install Brutal Doom to make it more like the recent games with Doom's name slapped on it.
>not loving both
Not gonna make it.
I'm playing PSX Doom right now and that level being removed was a pleasant surprise.
>aw yeah a bunch of fuckin lines are gonna help me navigate the place
Yeah? Are you retarded or something?
half life is best where it's not a literal maze of pointless rooms to trudge through
Half Life feels like a real location, Doom 2 feels like a bunch of random nondescript rooms with no discernible purpose.
Hexen is good. Only brainlets criticize the level design. People who actually played the game criticize the weapon variety. 4 weapons per class sucks. Should be at least 6.
I hate this mentality. It's why everything is so streamlined and hand holdy these days. Linearity has its place for sure, but not everything needs to be like this. If zoomers had their way everything would be like warframe or skyrim, hand holdy grind to win trash. They constantly needed to be told what to do and where to fucking go.
>go to x and do y 50x
>YOU JUST WON A TROPHY!!!
>NEW FAGTRON SLIN UNLOCKED!!!!!
How the fuck is this not a waste of fucking time but trying to figure out a maze is? Gaming post 6th gen was a mistake. The quadroon zoomer masses have killed everything.
I think that user means that people today simply refuse to learn basic skills and take some sort of sick superiority from not being able to do basic things.
I don't mind being lost, but I fucking hate the puzzles. Doom 64 has this "puzzle" with two gates and two buttons that open one gate each. But opening one closes the other, and you need both open for some reason I forgot. It turns out the """solution""" to the """"""""""puzzle"""""""""" is to exit the room and use a random fucking panel in a hallway out of sight from the room which makes both the gates open, making the buttons completely pointless. Who the fuck put this in a game and thought "this will be fun!" What was this testing? The time it takes for me to look up a walkthrough?
HL is too linear. Build games have the best mix of abstract (ie Doom) and real locations.
wait, you're serious? i always wondered what those color lines were fuck i guess i am retarded
So? Then they end up looking like idiots, like some of the anons in this thread. Who cares.
Megawads will never be dumbed for these people. That's more important, imo.
>Only brainlets criticize the level design. People who actually played the game criticize the weapon variety.
I criticize both.
At least the base game isn't as bad as the expansion.
No. A hiker would want to tread paths and climb rocks. It's like a hiker complaining that there is easy, downhill, flat roads everywhere. It's boring and frustrating and it doesn't feel like you're actually playing the game
No but at least that shit is changing now from that one infamous "corridor + cutscenes" FPS pic.
I'm pretty sure the only official Doom level I've ever gotten lost in was The Citadel for Doom 2
While I'd love more weapons, the ones available are awesome. That said, the inventory items are basically a whole set of weapons in and of themselves.
