The orca is from Rivals of Aether, the duck is from Slap city (which is basically that developer's own smash bros, so the duck is probably from some other game originally), no clue about the girl.

Wouldn't modding Rivals of Aether with more characters accomplish the same thing?

Honestly this game has a pretty solid fighter lineup already. Yeah, it could be a bit more recognizable with tossing in like Super Meat Boy, the MC from Hollow Knight (or maybe Hornet given Silk Song will be out around the same time), and some castle crasher. But it shows off a lot of characters from some more niche games that are awesome. Fucking Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien is amazing.

this is the biggest kiss of death the game could get, since they have 6 characters done, 2 that will be added (theres no way the second character stretch is not gonna be reached) and yet the EA will take this long.

the only way this would make any sort of sense, is if they are making more than just 8 characters, but nothing shows thats how its gonna be.

My best guess is that they're attempting to get the engine and Fraytools done during all that time. The devs seem to be banking on the core gameplay being smooth and technical and for modding to be easy and user friendly. If that's the case then no wonder they're taking a year and a half to get it done. I mean hey, it's taking Sakurai and his team 2 years to create 6 DLC fighters while McLeod and his team have a year and a half to create an early build of the game.

The roster reminds me of Blade Strangers by Nicalis. Doubt we will see Cave Story or Isaac featured in this game as well.
That begs the question, what are the chances we will see any Undertale / Deltarune characters in this game?

I want slugcat to be playable and have him pull out a vulture grub for his down special.
It's cool that FTL Rockman is an assist, but a playable Engi would be rad. Maybe even an Into the Breach mech.
It would be fucking hilarious if Arstotzka Border Control guy could be an assist somehow.

Isaac isn't owned by Nicalis like Cave Story so they can actually get him. As for Undertale content, it will depend on if Toby is playing ball or not.
