The fucking Series S just became the easiest modifiable console in history. Emulators are being uploaded as we speak. Sony isn't even Backwards compatible with PS3, but The Xbox managed to do it within its developer community. ON A SERIES S.

Interested in picking one up now but a few questions.

How difficult is it to switch between dev mode and "regular" mode to play series x games

Can you play emulators with USB controllers in dev mode, or do they need to still be Xbox controllers?

Is it powerful enough to run nice CRT shaders (CRT Royale, etc)/runahead? Might be a dumb question.

My fridge can already do this. Saged

The PS5 has better games

Devmode or retail mode should just be a reboot

>How difficult is it to switch between dev mode and "regular" mode to play series x games
Pretty easy, you just have to restart it in devmode, but since its boot times are very fast, you can just press and hold the xbox button and reboot into dev mode in seconds
>Can you play emulators with USB controllers in dev mode, or do they need to still be Xbox controllers?
This depends on the emulator. Retroarch will allow you to use any controller you want for example.

Yes. Not a dumb question, but the answer is yes. There will be a you tube video posted in a few days. Shaders will be kept in mind. CRT shaders in 4k look decent, but there is some janky interloping going on, but that will be fixed eventually.

> Is it good enough?
It's basically a high end 2019 PC, even the S can run just about anything.
There are tons of benchmarks for every emulator on YouTube as we speak.

Does this mean the script extenders for Bethesda games could work with it?

I was actually wondering if bluetooth controllers could work, like a Wiimote for Wii games

Wait... Does that mean i get to play some PC exlusives with this?

Devmode can't play retail games, so maybe only on open sourced Marrowind

Yeah its really awesome. I'm hoping to write some shaders for PCSX2 for it. This is now my favorite console. Its suuuuper backwards compatible with many emulators.

Are there any videos of it running BOTW or any PS3 game? Tried looking on YouTube and the maximum I found was PSP games.

How is this surprising? Isn't XBOX basically a pre-packaged PC with locked down OS at this point?

If you unlock the OS you can install everything you could on a PC

I don’t know why you’d want to play the original Xbox version of it. It has some of the worst load times I’ve ever seen

You'd can't really play PC games on it as of now, someone would have to write an MSC and recompile the entire game. Its possible, but a lot of work. I'd say if some modder got bored enough, you could see PC games pop up in a few years.

I ran retroarch on my xbox one x and it ran like actual shit. The series x and s is prolly better

What emulators can it run? I’m curious if it can run the Wii U and Switch emulators

Awesome, I'm sold. Appreciate the answers user. I've owned a mister for a year or so and enjoy it, but from what I read retroarch with runahead basically gives the same experience. I held on to it because I don't want to hook my laptop up to a tv but this makes it an easy decision.

That's not how it works user.

Yes, but this PC can do 4k emulation for $299. That's an easy decision to make for budget gamers.

The videos are new, so you'd have to give people time to upload content. There is a CEMU and YUZU fork in development.

Retro arch runs very well on series S and X.

Do they allow media apps in dev mode yet? Hated how on xbone i couldnt pop a podcast on while using retroarch

>>Play Tux Racer in 4k
The future is now

I think most of the developers are focused on emulators right now. I don't think media apps are a primary focus, but being that its basically an msc c# app you could easily port one by recompiling one of the existing ones in vs.

No no
I meant the media apps you can access from the UWP store on Xbox. Not sideloaded or custom stuff.

What's the deal with switch emulation and could you use it on the series s?

You can't do that in devmode. It will have to be a separate app.

Theres no chance that Microsoft will get angry about all this and try to shut it down and ban people right?

Right now switch emulation in general is very buggy because of nintendo's dual level encryption. Even on PC you have tons of problems.

Yuzu forking for MSC apps is new, so it will take time to perfect. Its very very new, but have patience.

Sooooo, the SeX can play demon souls at 4K 60 fps for free. Hehehehe, My fellow xbros won

No, because the purpose of dev mode is to test homebrew software. Microsoft has always been a huge fan homebrew, but they understand that they have to separate it from the main console firmware.

This is all very fascinating to me. It beats having to bring out my laptop if I want to play some Sega or snes games. Being able to run almost every system on one, cheap box as well as current gen games has me excited.

>ON A SERIES S
is it only the S?

Xbots will finally emulate how to get good games from PlayStation since there's nothing to play on that console

No they aren't Sony.

Damn the Series X can play Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox 1, Nes, Snes, Genesis, Saturn, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii, PS1, PS2, and possibly more consoles, while the PS5 can only play PS4 and PS5 games. How will Snoys ever recover?

The original Xbox has some good shit. Mostly from Sega though

This is big news since the potential is enormous BUT we need to see its practical application first.
