sega megadrive I got in 2003 (15 years after it came out) costed more than that, each game (pirated cartridges mostly) was about 5$ (and good ones like MK3U/Zero Tolerance/etc were 10$), shitty controllers that broke every few months were 10$, and the console ultimately broke within a year.
It is actually something I thought about when I sold my E8400/4Gb RAM/HD4850 for 30$ - how cheap and easy it is to play now comparing to then, with hardware progress having significantly slowed down in the past decade. in 2003, a 50$ computer would be something ancient like 486/P1 and internet was something rich kids had, so PC gaming was completely out of reach for me.
