In racing games, so you play in first person view or third person view?
I always try first person but end up having to switch to third person.

I always go for the hood view if the game has it

TP all the way I'm a poor driver and always use automatic transmission so the only way to get enjoyment is to coom to the cars

Bonnet Cam for me, but when I was younger or if the games more arcadey I go for chase cam. Bonnet cam gives you so much more precise control though, without beinng uncomfortably close to the road.

cock view only. If the game only has a hood view or god forbit bumper view I'm not even touching that garbage.

I like the games that let you see the drivers hands and the steering wheel.

third person feels like driving with a 3 second input delay to me

Me too. I'm playing grid 2019, and you can see the driver switching his foot from the gas pedal to the brake pedal. Pretty neat.
But I have a hard time seeing the racing line in that view, and I'm a scrub that needs it.

3rd person gives you a lot more spacial awareness and I always feel claustrofobic when playing on 1st person
I mean, if people could drive in 3rd peson in real life, they would

Ideally hood cam. If that isn't available, then bumper. I physically cannot use third person cameras in racing games after using first for so long, there's always a delay, I end up overcorrecting or fucking up corners to begin with. No point in more awareness (you should know where the other racers are anyway) if you're losing tenths at every corner. Only exception is stuff like F-Zero.

first person probably works better in VR or at least an ultrawide

I didn't realize there were so many of you. I find the hood can to just be too weird.

bonnet cam

Third person so I can stare at my anime livery

just use your mirrors stupid

I'm used to hood view because most games I played growing up didn't have cockpit/interior view, so I went with the next best thing

Chase cam for ultra-arcade stuff, hood cam for anything else. Bumper cam is right out. I don't play sims so I can't speak for them, but every other game's interiors are way too restricting with trackir or whatever.
How is 2019? I loved the original, and played a lot of open wheel in Autosport. How does it compare?

>racing sim with wheel
First person
>anything else
Third person

What about the view where you see none of the car and it's just track in view. Do people actually use that one?

Not that guy but I use that because I hate how much of my vision gets blocked by the car and this way I can minmax corners much better I feel like. Only minus is that the fov is kinda small but I mean what do you really need fov for anyway.

Hood cam is unironically the best first person view for a lot of games. In real life, you aren't staring at your hands and the dashboard while driving, you're looking out the windshield with occasional glances at the dash and mirrors when necessary. The hood cam also means you know exactly where the corners of your car are at, good if you aren't quite sure yet or use different cars regularly. Cockpit cams tend to clutter the screen with shit that ends up less immersive anyway because the ugly low poly hands on screen clearly aren't yours. Some games have a cockpit view with the wheel removed which is alright, I guess. Bumper cam is the old standby but a lot of newer games put the camera's point of view so ridiculously close to the ground (and angle it downwards to boot) that 2/3 of the screen is made of the tarmac five feet in front of you and you're just hindering your racing because you can't see fuck-all.

third person doesnt give enough feedback from the car to give you good lap times which is why forza and gran turismo kiddies will never be actually fast

It's leagues better. One of the best racing games I've played actually, and I've played a lot of racing games.
It's less arcady and has a ton of content.
There's like three dlc's as well that adds metric shit ton of more content.
I'll buy those as I finish the base game for sure.

>Arcade/simcade?
Third person
>Simulator?
First person

I use cockpit view in gt sport and do quite well with it. It's such a good game though anything would be fun.

Good shit; I'll give it a whirl when the steam sale rolls around. Thanks user.

Third Person

I didn't think it was very good at all. Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle, with lots of the same races over and over. Missing features from both RD:G and Autosport. The crew chief radio voice makes me want to hang myself. Flashback is still Forza style 'press button and rewind a few seconds' instead of the origibal's precise rewind and pause. Doesn't have nearly the same feel of progression as the original- no starting as a hiree driver, starting a team, swapping out teammates, beating the three trees of regional racing and finally taking first in LMP1 at Le Mans. Had a shitload of day 1 DLC because that's how Codies works now.

I really can't agree with this post at all.

i only play inside the cockpit if it's raining

Hood view. Camera is usually right over the front wheels giving you 1:1 response when steering, best POV, and high enough to see far enough int othe road.
Bumper is too close to ground and other cars if youre racing against others. Inside cockpit reduces FOV by way too much. Third person is the worst view ever. The input doesnt translate well to the car.

>vr
there's only interior view
>arcade
bumper cam
