What made it so iconic? Does it still hold up?

was made to be one of nintendos first 3d games, because of this they showed off the 3rd dimension, height, as much as possible. this created an extremely interactive game with fully realized environments.
people dont do games like that anymore, no idea why.
It does hold up IMO. The only thing that's a bit hard to get used to is the automatic jumping
It still holds up to the point where i've been considering playing it again.
whats stopping you?
Life
>why iconic
Great gameplay, memorable levels/environments, great presentation.
>does it still hold up
It's better than most AAA games made today, so yes.
It was much more polished than could be expected of such an early 3D adventure game
First 3d zelda game
One of the first games that had using a bow and horse riding in 3d
Great sense of mystery
Amazing music and music design
Most dungeons and puzzles are fun albeit tedious
It sort holds up today could def use another hd or remaster for them textures and colors and polygons. But it retains its charm
oot hasnt aged well, all the puzzles revolve around the wow factor of 3d space (look around a room for a switch) or pushing blocks forward until they lodge a switch on the floor
everything it introduced has been iterated upon in novel ways in various genre, if you wanted to experience technological advancement in the medium you might start with oot and you may end with witcher 3
t. Zoomer who hasn't played OOT
I replay it once a year, the true test is getting others to play it ,protip: they wont
What made it iconic is the freedom it gave you to go anywhere, back in 1998. Such a thing was still very rare back then. Plus the music is very memorable even to this day.
>Does it still hold up?
If you play the 3DS version, yeah.
oot was premium, you could see death mountain looming in the distance and you could climb to the top and get magical powers bestowed upon you by a fairy
Zoomers love OoT though.
I want this artstyle to come back
I don't care if it would be for an HD OoT remake or a new game entirely
Witcher 3 is worse than OoT's contemporaries, to say nothing of how bad it is compared to OoT itself.
3D was new and those were the years when the first games were getting it right. It still holds up because it exceeds some reasonable threshold of looks and fun that people have come to expect of video games. Is it still a gost in the opinion of a 12 year old? I don't know, you'd have to ask them.
the soundtrack youtube.com
nah, that's plebian shit
Can't believe WW got a HD remake and OOT/MM got 3DS trash
>Does it still hold up?
Kill yourself nigger
Play the 3DS version. ignore "soul" fags
>Iconic series' first leap into 3D, that also was highly successful (there'd been many others that failed horribly).
>Stellar atmosphere that captivates the players right off the bat.
>Smooth and varied gameplay with tons of content.
>Iconic soundtrack that's also utilized in the gameplay department (Ocarina songs + dynamic soundtrack)
>while the plot's pretty basic, the cast is memorable.
All in all, Nintendo did a lot of things right in the late 90s.
>Does it still hold up?
Absolutely. I've seen some total newbs pick up and play it for the first time in the past few years, the N64 original at that, and love it to bits.
I myself pretty much replayed it semi-annually at one point, though it's been a while since I've done a full playthrough.
the bloom & blur "HD" remake of WW was trash.
Its hard to say for me.
Like Mario 64 I've returned to it and replayed it many times that I can't catch that magic of exploring a a new unfamiliar world. Closest I've come to re-enjoying oot and mm were playing the remakes then recently playing Randomizer.
Randomizer is pretty neat because yeah, the worlds aren't so unfamiliar but nothing is where I remembered it and thankfully the settings are pretty t customizae so you don't have to rely on glitches to solve "unsolvable situations".
You do however need to provide your own rom for the program to patch but thats nothing. I recommend it to anyone looking to replay the series.
being first and no it doesn't hold up.
In addition to the usual posted, most people forget that for such an experimental title it was still brilliant at producing emotional experiences with its scenes, setting, music, gameplay etc
When you first leap over the wall with Epona and the overworld theme comes on that sense of freedom, when you first see castle town destroyed and ganon racing off with Zelda, the hidden wonders, the sense of dread at some of the bosses and dungeons. It's an experience more than anything
>being first
first what?
>it doesn't hold up.
how so?
>music
> eh reh intensifies
What games have a similar atmosphere to Ocarina
Ive always found Saria's and Link's arc to be sad
needlessly large overworld
lots of short forgettable dungeons
Yes.
>needlessly large overworld
What "overworld"?
You referring to the Hyrule Field, a mere tiny HUB map you seldom pass through after becoming adult? We got tons of modern "open world" games with square miles of impractical landmasses with no real purpose.
>lots of short forgettable dungeons
None of them are that short, and I'd argue that OoT's dungeons are literally the most iconic in the series history, only rivaled by those in MM and SS.
If you want to see truly forgettable dungeons, play TP.
both points objectively wrong
but enough about Breath of the Wild
Lol what dungeons?
Ere they that forgettable even the devil forgot about them?
