way to fuck up your own thread

every game is turn based because you will always take a turn to act or react

Like it or not, there is not a single good action rpg and the highest rated RPG last gen was turn based

k im gonna turn based fuck your mom you fucking nigger

Turn based is good for boss battles but it makes trash combats take way too long.

I want to see a game where boss battles are turn based and take 30 minutes and every non-boss battle is just mashing X brainlessly and over in seconds.

the zealots for both turnbased and real time are faggots
both can be enjoyable

BOTW wasn't turnbased

>NOOOOOOO IT'S MY TURN TO HIT YOU
It's a crutch for people who have molasses tier reflexes.

BASED
CRINGE

>real-time combat
>turn based
with all these zoomers it's hard to tell if i'm being trolled

This implies you need reflexes for a standard real time action game.

Anyway, what you guys consider "turn based" isn't really turn based and the enemies will attack if you take too long. Turn based RPGs fell out of the norm in the mid 90s.

Anyone play this shit? Someone suggested it in a Fallout: Tactics thread a grip ago. Picked it up and loved the shit out of it.

Eh. I'd say top-down turn based strategy like Fire Emblem and Wasteland 2/3 > everything else. But honestly I could take or leave turn-based battle-scenes like FF and Pokemon, they're not even in the same league.

turn based games are fucking boring
they're way too easy almost all the time and only ask you to barely think during combat, the "peak" of it according to some of the resident retards here is shit like SMT which is essentially just playing a turn based simon says with numbers and buffs
"strategy" turn based games with numbers are alright though, but they also suffer from shit like lethargic flow of combat and waste too much time on unnecessary shit, seeing the strategy you thought out played in what's essentially slow motion in contrast to your mental process is fucking awful and only a small handful of these games manage to get that right (e.g. into the breach is a good example, nuxcom an awful one)
either way you can have all the strategy and thought process of a turn based game in a real time one, with the added time of mechanical depth and the pressure of time, so what's the point? literally just a genre for casuals and people who don't actually enjoy videogames for what they are

You can always tell how people who blindly hate turned based games are wrong because of how insanely circular their arguments are

>turn based is bad!
>but why
>because it's turn based!
>why is that bad
>it's not playing out in real time, tHerEs TuRns!!!

every
single
time

I specifically avoid playing this and similar games because theyre so fucking good and I waste dozens of hours in them

came to post this

user have you ever played a real-time-with-pause game? Like Pillars of Eternity or Baldur's Gate? Cause if so, you'll probably understand why turn-based makes so much sense. If you want complex mechanics and to control a party of several characters, then there is simply too much shit for you to do in real-time, and having a pause option arguably is a clunky fix to that problem.
Also in games like Fire Emblem that's not even an option, they are far too strategic to have any real-time components. Some people just like to have their strategic abilities tested as opposed to their reflexes and whatnot.

Is your only experience with rpgs final fantasy

wow my choices are attack, defend, or heal?
hmm I'm gonna have to think about this...

>tactical turn based like FF: Tactics or Divinity
good
>turn based where you hammer Fight and occasionally Ability>Heal
terrible garbage

NOO CORONA-NEKO-SAN, I'M HEAL- coof HEALTHYcoof

>waiting in line style combat
kek no

srpgs are under utilized.

agreed.
I don't really get why games have combat when it's just pressing continue to win and/or grinding.

FFX for turn-based, FFX-2 for ATB
You cannot refute this.

>friend hates turn-based combat
>invite him to play real-time combat in purist form, fighting games
>"fighting games suck. all you do is memorize combos to win!"

I can't, you're too based

fighting games do suck, you should've played an RTS or a shooter

the only good turn-based game is one where you have no idea whats happening.

turn-based is what you play when you want strategy but are too much of a brainlet for starcraft

starcraft is what you play when you are too much of a brainlet for chess

tru

>turdbased

>the genre where apm trumps all
