Banjo-Kazooie series

Thoughts on these 3D Platformers.

going back to Kazooie is boring, Tooie holds up tho

Kazooie is overrated zoomer YT essayist watcher bait, Tooie is kino. Simple as.

eekum bokum

Great games for their age that are still decent today. Sad we never got the proper third game in Threeie and that N&B basically killed the franchise.

i'm finishing up college tomorrow, i cannot wait to get a rom for tooie, since kazooie was fucking fun.

I pull out the N64 maybe once or twice a year and play through some favorites. Kazooie is one of them. I think my best time is somewhere around 6 hours. I could never get through a Tooie run, though. It feels like such a slog in comparison.

Other way around, m8

I can 100% Kazooie in just over 5 hours. Tooie takes about 13 hours.

Tooie is fucking boring and all the levels except for grunty industies are shit. Yooka-Layle is better than tooie

Lolno

Wrong. The original game is still amazing.

I liked the first one, Toiie crashed every 2 seconds on my emulator

Kazooie is fun to blast through in a couple afternoons

Tooie is a fun extensive replay every couple of years

Your personal priorities will decide your favorite for you but if you hate either of them than pic related is for you.

Diddy Kong Racing is p good
Kazooie and Tooie are absolute kino
Grunty's Revenge on GBA is surprisingly good
Banjo Pilot is the worst game in the series
Nuts and Bolts isn't a hidden gem buried under bad press the driving and world design and missions are genuinely unfun ass. It's a 5-6/10 at best.
Yooka Laylee is deeply mediocre, not terrible but so strongly mediocre that it's intensely noticeable. It's not a game that you look back on and realize is kinda unremarkable, it's unremarkable, uncharming, and uninspired in basically every moment of the game with a few moments dipping into genuinely fun or genuinely terrible
I couldn't get into Banjo-Dreamie it feels like it was just wanking itself off on being slow paced and frustrating
Banjo-Kazooie: The Jiggies of time is also absolute kino

lolyes

Kazooie is a charming game, although I don't love it as much as its diehard fans. Other platformers of the gen like Mario 64 and the Spyro games feel much better to actually play, it's carried by an incredibly charming cast and world.
Tooie is fantastic though. The shift from being a pure Mario 64-styled collectathon platformer to an interconnected adventure game with Metroidvania elements worked in its favor really well, it doubles down on the things Banjo does well and masked a lot of the things that it's not as good at. Not every level is a winner, Cuckooland fucking sucks, but it's definitely one of the highlights of the Nintendo 64.

Grunty's Revenge and Pilot are okay but feel half finished, I've never dabbled with N&B beyond the demo because while building cars was fun I hated the actual gameplay you used them for.

Nah. As much as I enjoyed YL, it was a pale imitation of BK/BT. Like one of those things where an AI takes media, then tries to replicate it without actually understanding it.
Plus, Tooie had the best levels.

tooies maps are just too big

>Tooie had the best levels
lol tooie worlds were all empty and bland

I love the first one so much.

It's hard to imagine a new entry that is as good as Mario Odyssey though... Odyssey ripped off so much from BK and no one noticed.

>Cloud Cuckoo Land
>WitchyWorld
>Terrydactyland
>Grunty Industries
>Bland
Especially in comparison to YL, that's just absurd.

They're okay. The first one is a little janky but fun, the second one is much more mechanically rich and smooth but is just too fucking long and getting every jiggy is a convoluted multi-step puzzle.

is odyssey any good?

Kazooie > Donkey Kong 64 > Tooie > Yooka-Laylee

Yes I've played all these games recently

yes all shit except for Grunty Industries

Fair enough if you have a personality defect which makes you dislike them, but it's retarded to call them bland, when even the best of YLs levels were spectacularly dull and derivative.

Banjo Kazooie was the first game I thought was bad as a kid, I thought Mario 64 was better in every way. Growing up I realized how fucking right I was, BK sucks ass

and yes yooka-layle had better worlds except for that ice one which is like a tooie world empty and bland.

Odyssey is like the early worlds of Kazooie, where many jiggies and collectibles are either waiting out in the open or are earned through trivial tasks, except it lasts the entire game. Whether or not that sounds good is up to your tastes.

Which ones were better? The empty casino? The boring Bubblegloop swamp knock-off? The empty knock-off of Mayan Mayhem?
The Clanker's Cavern knockoff without anything in it?
Galleon Galaxy was alright, at least.

Yooka Laylee only has two decent levels and one of them is the ice palace

>Which ones were better? The empty casino? The boring Bubblegloop swamp knock-off? The empty knock-off of Mayan Mayhem?
>The Clanker's Cavern knockoff without anything in it?
>Galleon Galaxy was alright, at least.
yes

Even then, Glitterglaze Glacier is a poor man's Hailfire Peaks, and doesn't hold a candle to Freezezy Peaks

I wish I could be satisfied with being a contrarian.

lol I honestly think the casino world is the best. It's

Capital Cashino>Moodymaze Marsh>Galleon Galaxy>Tribalstack Tropics>Glitterglaze Glacier

Also the overworld is garbage

If you could do anything in the casino, it'd be good, but as with all of them, the thought process seemed to stop at, "[theme]-level"
