"This series went to shit when the original crew stopped working on it!"
Has there ever been a moment where this isn't the case?
Have there been any games or franchises (sequel, reboot or remake, doesn't matter) that have been just as good, if not better, without the original team?

bump for interest

That's actually hard.

Pokémon.
Almost every spinoff that isn't made by Game Freak is better than the core games.

Yes, Max Payne 3.

TPBP.

Gamefreak is the biggest hindrance to the franchise.

I don't know if I'd count spinoffs.

metroid prime, donkey kong, fallout

Give examples, I've literally never played any Pokeman games.

Sonic Mania

Literally any Blizzard game.

I thought people said Wasteland 2 and 3 are the better Fallout games than Bethesda's Fallouts?

Sorry I read that wrong, fuck. Disregard

The 2013 Killer Instinct stayed pretty damn good even after amazon bought out the studio and changed literally everyone working on the game. Extremely surprising, really.

OSRS

worst in the series for numerous reasons, but not "bad"
I'd say it still qualifies as going to shit

Bait

Mystery Dungeon
Pokemon Rumble
Pokemon Coliseum and Gale of Darkness
Pokemon Snap
Pokemon Pinball
Pokemon TCG
Pokemon Conquest
Pokken Tournament

>metroid prime
Nah, 2D Metroid felt way more cohesive .

People were bitching for over a year about Wasteland 2 not letting you side with a second faction.

Old School RuneScape
They "poled" the release of the game and we ended up 1 "tier" away from a proper dev team so they just instated a team of volunteers.

Donkey Kong Country

Did RE7 contain people from the original series? I considered it pretty good (though obviously not perfect). I don't know much about their dev team.

You mean XD Gale of Darkness?

user, New Vegas was the best 3d Fallout exactly because Obsidian brought in a bunch of Black Isle writers and devs after their studio went under

Probably THE most examplatory case you could choose for why the original dev matters.

Most of the original devs have been gone since RE5. Even the series once long term producer has been gone for a while now.

Tales games are only going to improve since Baba left, look at Berseria compared to Zestiria and all the ps3 garbage Xillia was.

They were around for RE5? what the fuck? why did they turn their creation into such dogshit

you cant lie metroid prime(and smash) revitalized the series a bit

>implying fallout 3/4 arent good enough and 10x more well known than the originals

plus there would be no 3d fallout without beth and their shitty engine so theres that too

Neil Cuckman was around working on Uncharted since I think before Uncharted 2 if i remember correctly?
Would've been better off without him obviously.

No shit a new entry combined with another and an advertisement in the same relative time frame after nearly a decade of silence is going to bring a series back into relevance.

Metroid Prime

Ys, imagine unironically wanting bumper cart combat still.

Sonic Mania

but it stands on its own and thats the topic of discussion

Fair enough.

RE4 success blinded them. That was also the time when Capcom really, like really into turning their IPs into western stuffs to the point they gave away DMC, Bionic Commando, and Strider to western developers.
