Kind of. Minecraft and Fortnite being massively popular for mobile around the time the 3DS retired kind of ensured the end of portable game systems. Only way I can see it coming back is if Nintendo wants to go back to 2 types of consoles in their next few generations or Sony somehow decides there’s value in a smartphone that can play exclusives on and has the psn integrated into it.

It's not as mobile has completely replaced it, but it is in the way you remember.
I don't have a single game on mobile though as I keep it for work and need my battery high as long as possible. I take my switch of I want to game. I've had a Disgaea 5 run I've been working on for about two years when I vacation at a friend's lake house.

Both switch and switch lite are perfectly portable, full sized switch fits in any not shit pocket if you remove the joycons and put them in another pocket

I never understood the fact that people wanted to take games to places other than their living room or bedroom.
I have a Switch but every time I go out and I know I will need to spend some idle time, I take my Kindle with me, because I just can't play video games without being in a private place where I can forget about the world.
Reading an ebook is something that is easy to do anywhere, I can stop reading and pay attention in the real world without it being something that will ruin my experience as it would happen in a game.
