What do people see in Danganronpa? A good 75% of the script consists of the words 'hope' and 'despair', and every character has a 20 minute long monologue about it. And not to mention the utterly insane amount of exposition that leaves literally no stone unturned, not one thing left to the imagination. It's like being hit with a squeaky, inflatable baseball bat that has 'narrative!' scribbled on it with a sharpie.

I loved Danganronpa because of the cool premise, the mysteries and the pacing. The constant speeches about hope and despair are cringeworthy at best, but the game does get a lot more depressing and bleak as people get murdered and get executed and if you're invested in the story you should feel some kind of an emotion when the gang has a breakthrough with their escape plan, so I do think the themes of hope and despair are well implemented in the bigger picture of the story.
