I recall that as well because of those trailers implying a much darker tone. Looking back at it now, there were plenty of other trailer scenes and footage we saw like the bit about him fighting some of his men on mother base before "going nuclear"...the scenes play out in actuality have nothing to do with one another but were perfectly cut ans put together early on. I feel it was a huge missed opportunity to explore that part and the child soldiers, perhaps could've even trained them to later have them be a part of your unit.

The only thing remotely functional about child soldiers is the amount of demon points they remove for rescuing them. Otherwise, they don't serve a purpose outside of the storyline. Wasted time lifting them out

I don't buy thay entirely. It's like the rumors about how Toriyama was "forced" to keep making DBZ when it was clear to everyone it was a huge cash draw and he enjoyed the success and monetary gain and influence because of it while his dream was to end it and write other manga. It's half truth. Sure it was supposed to end after Frieza but no one bent his arm to keep writing it.
With Kojima I remember the distaste for MGS2 but it was all on the basis of not wanting that newface Raiden be the lead suddenly after we grew fond of Snake.
Other than that, the themes and overall game were a landmark success and viewed by a lot as sleeper bit for best MGS story content wise when weighed against all others that followed.

All he said since then when asked is that he didn't own the fox engine and that Konami held the rights to the franchise now and that he was excited to work on his new project (which at the time was Death Stranding on his new engine). He didn't address what happened so it seems like he just moved past it and will give the diplomatic answer if asked again.

This guy is legendary. I still play MGSV and Death Stranding, he actually got better and better at making games. Problem is that they are for a different audience now and the old audience cant let go. But nothing comes close to his new stuff, even if its not perfect. You just realize how old he is now and its a miracle that he still makes games with so much control and budget, real AAA auteur shit. Just legendary.
