Soul is also tied to having content that has the feeling of "you didn't have to", but they did anyway. Right now, games are very lackluster in terms of that, we're seeing an increase of graphics quality but a decrease of content. The effort is being placed on the wrong aspects.
Most games that can be called soulful or have soulful aspects are the ones with this extra content: look at Understale's 4th wall breaking/artstyle shift, Hades's voicelines for every situation and outcome you could imagine, Souls series have a ton of lore and secrets.

Sometimes I like to imagine alternative reality where I have gameboy color in 2001, rich family and stuff and I'm able to enjoy Pokemon games.

What would you want from a pokemon romhack?

I'm kind of bored by prospects of re-balancing pokemon, adding pokemon from different gens, etc. and am far more interested in reimagining the architecture/layout of the cities and locations so they feel more fleshed out and lifelike but I don't know if people would actually find that interesting.

This is such a low IQ take, like the characters in Johto wouldn't use Pokemon that are also native to their region because ???.

Yeah Scizor on Bugsy’s would have fucked most kids teams except cyndaquilchads, but fortress and scizor not being on Jasmine’s team is a travesty because at that point your team should be good enough to handle them

I really wish some of these pokemon games would allow you to fight trainers multiple times. Like wait a day and you can go back and battle them again and they scale with you as you go throughout the game.

Gen 5 is actually a godsend because Audino grinding is a thing, easily get new pokemon to a higher level but you can't overlevel because gen 5 exp doesn't let you.
