Unless you're looking to go to 4k or VR, the GTX 970 is absolutely fine. A little limited on VRAM for *some* titles, but nothing a few little tweaks can't fix with no discernible difference in visual fidelity.
I went from a GTX 970 to a 2080 Super, and you know what I found? Games are fucking terribly optimized, most games at 1080p (even super sampled down from 4k/1440p) barely use 50% of my GPU.
RDR2 went from 40-50fps with the 970 to 70-80 fps with the 2080 Super.
If i'd known what I know now, and if my GTX 970 hadn't died, there is no way i'd have bothered upgrading.
