I talked but couldn't go beyond anything else. Once I gathered all my courage but found out that girl in question no longer work there and never responded when I instead left contact info to her friend who still worked in that place. I hate myself for that.

Honestly just find random shit to talk about at first. If someone isn’t biting, I change the topic all the time. Movies, work, random story about a pet or friend, etc. Broad strokes until you find a common ground to speak from. Other people are shy too. You just gotta crack them open a little

Yeah the “friend” route is fucking weird and rarely goes anywhere in real life. It’s better to meet new people for romantic possibilities. People you’ve known for a while will almost exclusively friendzone. I was actually just talking to my wife about this. Apparently women see friendship and dating as two different things, while guys (correctly) see dating as just a higher tier of friendship
