I still don't understand the point of extensive character customization if you're not going to be in third person. Seems like a poor idea to me. How hard can it be to code a toggleable third person mode when you can literally code customisable genitals into the game. If Bethesda can do it so can they.

Plenty. 1st and 3rd person are nothing alike in terms of gameplay, at least not when they're implemented well. Games like elder scrolls or gta that have both options always have the "standard", solid option and the second, butchered one. It's not as simple as putting the camera over your character's shoulder and call it a day. I still don't get how people don't understand this to this game. Simply put: 3rd person mode would either control like 1st and be janky af, or it would control like any other modern title and ruin the experience that was designed for 1st person.

First person, voiced fixed personality protagonist, and the new tone all kind of put me off a little. I like New Vegas because I can kind of roleplay and come up with unique character concepts and the game all works with that. Having V, who looks like they have an extremely defined personality, immediately kneecaps this idea. I wanted to play a slick ex-corpo assassin type, wearing fancy suits and using a silver tongue to get what I want. Sure, you can kind of play that, but V seems like a grungy mercenary type regardless and I'll never be able to assume his tone is the way I want because of his voice.
Then, what is the fucking point of clothing or style when you literally never get to see your character in action? I was fine with no third person camera switching, but I expected cutscenes and camera angles during dialogue at least. Total fucking waste of character customization otherwise.
This game just isn't what I wanted it to be anymore. I don't see the hype, every time it was talked about they announced more stuff that wouldn't be in the game, stuff that couldn't be done, things they had to remove for technical reasons, feautres I hoped for but wouldn't appear, etc; I'm sure it'll be a halfway decent shooter, but right now, fucking Fallout 4 looks like a more fun experience in my eyes.

It was never implied to be third person. I can't imagine anything this game would do in third person that would be better.
