They spend $200+ million on their game only for it to have mediocre gameplay and story. Meanwhile some random user who lives in his moms basement with no experience or education churns out a masterpiece. Why is this happening?
Why do so many AAA games suck?
Alot of the budget goes into marketing then they outsource most of the game
are you pretending to not know the answer to that, as if it hasn't been discussed to death?
the higher the development and marketing costs, the lower the opportunity to take risks, since the publishers want their money back, and the best way to do so is to make a game that appeals to everybody so they get as many sales as possible; what that means is a game that appeals to everyone, but is also loved by no one (at least not those with taste)
smaller budget AA and indie titles are free to experiment more, either due to the fact that there is no publisher, or the development cost is low enough to mean you can take more risks and target a niche audience
Companies are inefficient
If not managed correctly, their profit-seeking can destroy creative passion on their teams
"Some random user" usually is somebody who has a very very strong passion for whatever he's making and it shows in his game's release
game engines are a meme
So why don't the developers just invest in smaller budget games
Smoothed, stretched and molded by a huge committee to maximize every possible demographic thus appealing to nobody in particular. Then pressed through the lens of testers and handicapped apes to smooth out anything even remotely challenging, stripped everything remotely interesting because you can sell that separately. Focus on maximizing profits at the cost of the gameplay experience. Spend a major part of the budget on marketing. Boom, out comes your standard AAA+ "game".
smaller budget games don't make as big returns
video games are unique in that the profit they turn over is insanely fucking huge compared to that of something like movies
among us? Fall guys? You don't know many games do you
>lol dude two fotm games = the entire industry
retard
The budget largely goes to marketing.
You know there's countless AAA games that aren't successful you retard. kill yourself
you're an actual retard, you don't know shit
If I didn't know shit then you would've been able to prove me wrong. You have an underdeveloped brain, just leave.
Hades, Undertale, Five Nights at Freddy's Phasmophobia i could go on and on just admit you have no idea what you're spewing
are you pretending like less than 10 fucking games proves that the vast majority of low budget games yield huge returns? there are countless piece of shit shovelware games released on Steam every day and they'll make less than $1000
Best girl
Because the capitalist class is soulless.
Did your stupid ass just dodge the other argument and took low hanging fruit? Vast Majority of AAA games flop you retard. Hang yourself, the argument you're using against low budget games applies to high budget games.
There are countless AAA games that get released and they make less than what it cost to develop them. You're retarded.
>Vast Majority of AAA games flop
loving every laugh; go look at a list of video games with the highest sales and then look at what video games have had the highest development budget, then come back to me
besides 30 year old NES games and Tetris, I think you'll see a pattern
never understood why ichigo got so much hate
>go look at a list of video games with the highest sales and then look at what video games have had the highest development budget
its literally just Nintendo EAD and a bunch of indie games
Not giving developers enough time to make the games with forced release dates by the publisher to maximize sales. Although some of theses AAA games would have been shit no matter how long you give them.
A game that cost $0 to make that makes over $500 million dollars, or a game that costs $300 million to make only to make $500 million. GEE I WONDER WHICH ONE IS MORE SUCCESSFUL?
right, $0 to make and $500 million return, happens all the time bro
Minecraft, Tetris, Super Mario bros, PUBG, Terraria...user? Vast majority of the games on the list have little to no budget and don't qualify as AAA games... You know what this is a waste of my time, this argument is getting worse every fucking time you reply. Every argument you have used against low budget games actually counters your own fucking argument. I can't believe how stupid you are getting. You literally told us to check a source that actually disproves the statement you're making. I just..can't believe people like you exist. Not even my 6 year old Nephew would make mistakes like this.
I want her to touch me like that
>Why do so many AAA games suck?
They're not designed for you.
Corporatization of video games, in that passion projects get dumbed down and milked for money, that's why most AAA games are on part 4 or 5 now. It's souless and while they have high production quality there is no to little thought in making a game have any essence.
Thank god for demon souls for bringing hard back into video games, but have you noticed how man "souls-like" video games there are because the souless corps got a hold of it are replicate the gameplay and even demon/dark/bloodborne are in their 5/6th game now.
Back in the olden days 90s when computers were getting big the smaller companies could still compete for a long time and the bigger companies made sure to have complexity and depth. Soon after the 3D card boom in the late 90s you see this dumbing down for purely graphical edge. ie beautiful but dumb. It's practically been this way since after 98' only recently hard games have made a comeback but even that feels like a fucking corporate gimmick and not part of the game. for example most soul-like games don't think about the flow meeting the story line (dying can jilt you out of the action/story etc)
