Why can't Sony make their own one that runs on PS5?

that'll be $200
by this point we should have fully working emulators for all systems up to 360
Sony is actively embarrassed by their legacy software and would rather you not enjoy any of them then dare have them accessible on their new consoles
They have and will. They just need to test 2000 PS2 games first.

Just hack your PS5, install Linux on it, and install the emulator. Now you have an expensive PS2 lol
would be nice if it were true, maybe ps3 as well
too much gameplay, not enough cinematics
>tfw Xbox has a PS2 emulator and PS5 doesn't
you can literally just use this emulator on a laptop or sth
basically any modern pc even shit tier can handle ps2 emulation
why do people play PS2 on an emulator?
do you realize that a PS2 with FMCB and 2 controllers are like 40 dollars, right?
because one is free and can run on toasters? are you retarded or something?
yes and then you only need to buy every single game you want
Don't forget the bulky CRT, an ancient harddrive & tons of room for plastic cases
They did for PS4 but it's a hacked together mess

but the biggest reason as to why is because a lot of companies don't care about their 6th gen games they also don't sell well I'm sure SONY's legal department would rather do something productive than find the license holders for decades old games that will barely sell
Really and truly who the hell in 2020 still plays sixth gen consoles outside of third-world beaner countries?
Open source emulators are more complete compared to what Sony has in house.
>make an emulator/backwards compatibility for your new console
>not just re-releasing it on the network to download for a price or remaking and remastering it to double or triple dip for your next gen console
shiggy
Kind of. OSS emulators are packed full of features that improve upon the original console, and they are full of options that fix compatibility errors. Both things aren't useful for a corporate entity who wants games to work 100% with no embellishments.
PCSX2 is quite inaccurate and many games require manual fixes. RRV doesn't work, Jak & Daxter doesn't work, games like Fatal Frame have collision box errors because of FP rounding errors. Apologists state "shit games" and "it's free, so what", Sony needs it to work on almost every game otherwise they could be class actioned for claiming support that doesn't exist.
They don't want to. What sells consoles is lack of backwards compatibility, which is a form of planned obsolescence.
because ps3 games
>but that couple of ps3 games that emulator devs have been spending several years on optimizing only have a dozen of glitches now. Why doesn't sony just allow us to emulate ps3 gmaes on ps5?
the dumbest reasoning ITT
$70 Demon's Souls remake is one gen ahead PS2.
Why spend research&dev on an emulator when you can shit soulless remakes&remasters for the next decades?
>make a PS2 emulator for PS3, it's shit but at least you can run your old games
>make a PS2 emulator for PS4, it's even worse and you have to buy the games digitally from the PS4 store
>make no PS2 emulator for PS5
Why do they need to waste their time and money on making a feature nobody cares about? Nobody cares about old games because the graphics are shit and even PS3 era games are too ugly to play nowadays.
yet gta5 and skyrim are coming to PS5 and retards will buy them
this. there's a reason Xbox backwards compatibility team don't focus on OG Xbox no one buys that shit
SONY tried doing digital releases on the PS store with extra stuff like trophies no one bought that shit and they abandoned it
>there's a reason Xbox backwards compatibility team don't focus on OG Xbox no one buys that shit
Nobody cared about the OG Xbox way back then, nobody cares about it now
No one cares about the PS2 either apparently.
They don't want to put money into something less than 5% of console owners are going to use.
you need to be 18 to post here
Emulators are difficult to perfect
Better graphics, save states and turbo speed for free.
It's stupid to NOT emulate.
>ak & Daxter doesn't work
yes it does
They can but they just dont want to.
Why you may ask? Because BC is a meme nobody really is using.
cause they can't find a way to make you re-buy the games you already own
fucking retard
Because they want to either sell them as digital PS2 Classics or make you pay for PS Now
it's FMCB, nigga.
>Sony needs it to work on almost every game otherwise they could be class actioned for claiming support that doesn't exist.
have you played some of the PS2 classics on PS4, though? they're nowhere near perfect and in some cases the DS4 outright makes them worse to play than original version.
Thats' from Jak 2 though. I think he's referring to the precursor legacy.
They could, easily. And the PS5 is easily powerful to handle it. But why don't they? Money. They'd rather sell you the same game multiple times
Why would they?
They're putting out remasters for $70 and retards are eating it up - its easy money. Tbh I dont get why Microsoft aren't doing the same, they could've made so many shekels if they made remasters instead of falling for the backwards compatibility meme
